It’s time for our second annual Deaf Day on Sept. 21! 🎉
The Zoo, in partnership with the Sign Language Interpreting Program at Tarrant County College, invites members of the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing communities, and their friends and families, to enjoy the day with us! ☀
On the event day, American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters, provided by TCC, will be stationed throughout the Zoo at areas such as zookeeper chats, giraffe feeding and select restaurant and merchandise locations to allow seamless communication access to all our guests. Deaf Day 2023 was such a success that we are thrilled to carry that momentum forward this year. Come join us!

STAFF SPOTLIGHT! Everyone meet: Ben Johnson!!!
He is a new staff interpreter that joined our team this year. Our students were completely captivated by him and his story the moment he arrived on campus. He has such a wonderful positive energy and personality. He is skilled and a great teammate!
A little bit about Mr. Johnson: "My name is Ben Johnson. I am an Intepreter at Bowie HS. I am hard-of-hearing and do wear hearings aids. I learned sign language at a very young age because of my hearing loss and use it daily. My wife Krystal and I moved to Texas back in 2020. Krystal also uses sign language and speaks Spanish fluently. We have two dogs, Emma and Pumpkin, Pumpkin understands sign language too, but Emma is still learning. The four of us love to take walks, hit up the dog park, and go on family trips. We’ve really enjoyed living in Texas and can’t wait to see what other adventures will happen in the future."
Let's all welcome Mr. Ben Johnson! 🤟 He is the best and we are thankful he is on our team!
