Why You Can’t Yoga Your Way Out Of Burnout 03/08/2021

Been coming across a lot of great articles on burnout lately. I particularly like this one because they outline simple things that leaders can do to prevent workplace burnout. All of us could probably implement at least one more often.

- thank your colleagues
-provide constructive feedback
-encourage team members
-keep track of small wins
(just to name a few)

Why You Can’t Yoga Your Way Out Of Burnout It's time to reframe the conversation about burnout.

Beyond Burned Out Chronic stress was rampant even before the pandemic. Leaders can’t ignore it any longer.

Personal growth 02/15/2021

Great piece about personal growth on the Headspace (meditation app) blog. Worth a read!

Part that resonated the most with me: "personal growth happens in the moment. It’s not a fancy idea or a complicated concept which lies somewhere in the future if only we can work out how to get there. Instead it’s the direct experience of life, as it happens, in this very moment — in other words, through meditation through being mindful. Free from judgment and coming from a place of spacious clarity, life is experienced ‘as it is’, right now. This is what it means to grow personally."

Personal growth The magic happens when we stop, and just allow the mind to express itself exactly as it is.

First Day of Fall. As the season's change, I find it's a great time to take some time to reflect on the last season. Was it a summer full of fun? (maybe not as much in this COVID world) Did you check anything off the TO DO list? Did you see friends and family?

As we head into the next season, what are your goals? In the current state of the world, it's ok to not have a lot of goals. Most of us are just trying to get through the day.

2020 is not what any of us expected and most of our new year's resolutions are out the window. Is there one resolution that you really wanted to keep? Can you recommit to doing it for the last quarter of the year? Just a thought!

The resolution that I'm trying to keep is building my coaching business. Working every day to be the best life coach I can be.

Most of us will never forget where we were when we heard the unthinkable news that our country was under attack. I was a Sr. in college in Nashville, TN. My best friend who was living in Atlanta called to wake me up and tell me a plane just crashed into the Pentagon. As a life long DC area resident, I couldn't comprehend what she was saying.

Turns out my dad who worked in a tall building actually saw the plane flying low and the saw the ball of fire that crashed that became one section of the Pentagon. He bolted out of his office, took the stairs down 49 floors to get in his car and get home.

I feel very fortunate to have not lost a loved one on 9/11. My heart goes out to all those who lost loved ones 19 years ago today. They are still living the nightmare of that day.

Thank you to all our first responders on that day and every day for keeping us safe and for their selfless acts of helping others. May we remember this day as the day that our country untied together. We need that more than ever now.

There is little in life we can control. Are you someone who likes to control everything? Are you ok with going with the flow? How do you respond when things don’t go your way?

Change. Theme of the week. What do you want to change about yourself? We all have at least one thing they want to change.

Growing up, I loved to read. Both my parents are avid readers. Once I got done with school and started working the 9-5, reading became obsolete in my life. I’ve always wanted to change that. At the end of a long day, I couldn’t find it in me to turn off the tv and sit down to read.

Fast forward many years later and I’ve picked up reading again! I started slow. I knew in order to make reading a part of my life again, I had to get into the habit of doing it (almost) daily. I decided to add it into someone I already did daily. Enter breakfast with a big mug of tea. Instead of scrolling on my phone while I finish my tea, I read. I get in about 30 minutes a session. I also pick up a book in bed, especially when I can’t sleep. Reading does wonders for helping me fall asleep.

Lesson Learned: start out slow, incorporate into an already established habit.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read this quote. 2020 has been one heck of a year and we are only half way through. Change happens when we become so uncomfortable that the only way to get through it is to shift. Shift our way of thinking, doing, or feeling. How have you evolved so far in 2020?
