Congratulations to legendary Elk Grove High School educator and coach Ken Grams on his retirement after more than 60 years of service to Elk Grove and District 214! 👏
Grams leaves behind an extraordinary legacy as an educator, mentor and the winningest softball coach in Illinois history. And while his coaching career has come to a close, he plans to continue as the longtime voice of Grenadier football.

Congratulations to our 2026 Dr. Kenneth Hood Award Recipient, Mark Gunther!

The Village of Arlington Heights Senior Citizens Commission is proud to recognize Mark Gunther as the 2026 recipient of the Dr. Kenneth Hood Award for his extraordinary dedication to older adults in our community.

For more than 24 years, Mark has gone above and beyond his role as Hersey High School's Service Over Self (SOS) teacher, volunteering countless hours to create meaningful connections between students and older adults. Through programs like Kid Connections, the Love Bus, and partnerships with local senior living communities, Mark has reduced social isolation, inspired compassion across generations, and built lasting friendships that have enriched the lives of countless seniors.

His passion, leadership, and unwavering commitment to serving others have made a lasting impact on Arlington Heights and exemplify the spirit of the Dr. Kenneth Hood Award.
