Happy September! I hope this newsletter finds you well!

The Sociology & Criminal Justice Club is recruiting members with an information session this Wednesday, 3:30 pm in MCC 113. PreLaw, PSYC majors also welcome.

Our Alpha Kappa Delta International Honor Society Chapter is also recruiting. Special invitation letters will be delivered soon. Basically to qualify you need a 3.5 GPA and completion of a minimum of 12 SOCI and or CJUS hours.

The AKD may meet with the Club and conduct events and fund raisers. Many students are members of each organization.

AKD offers a wide range of recreational and professional advantages and will enhance your resume.

There are deadlines for upcoming 2026-2027 programs.

Students may:
- Research Travel Grant,
- Social Justice Award,
- Speaker Grant,
- Undergraduate Research Symposium
- obtain T-Shirts and other Swag
- more.

New Mexico Court Awards Damages against META abuse. The new penalty is in addition to the $375 million in civil penalties that jurors ordered against Meta in March after determining the company knowingly harmed children's mental health and concealed what it knew about child sexual exploitation on its platforms. In the second phase, prosecutors asked the judge to impose fundamental changes at Meta aimed at reining in addictive features, improving age verification and preventing child sexual exploitation through default privacy settings and closer oversight. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/new-mexico-court-orders-meta-to-pay-567-million-over-mental-health-harms-to-kids-online
