Thank you DFW Italian Festival for the mention. We look forward to participating in this years festivities.

Who's coming to the 2026 DFW Italian Festival? Not only will we have numerous vendors, exhibitors, concessions, cultural activities, entertainment and more, but we will also be featuring a number of non-profit organizations.

Among these will be a returning friend, The Sicilian Project, a 501 (c)(3) that raises funds in the US and Canada for programs and classes to teach English to Sicilian children, with the goal of improving their language skills so that young Sicilians will be able to compete in the global economy while remaining in Sicily.

Of late they have also been instrumental in helping with disaster relief on the island.

The Sicilian Project Disaster Relief Fund

When disaster strikes, the most vulnerable often have nowhere to turn.

The Sicilian Project’s General Disaster Relief Fund was created to respond quickly when unexpected crises impact communities. Through the generosity of donors around the world, we are able to deliver urgent humanitarian assistance to those who need it most.

For years, The Sicilian Project has empowered students through English language education and academic grants. Recently, we've decided to expand that mission by working with trusted local volunteers to provide immediate relief during times of hardship, whether caused by natural disasters, economic emergencies, or other unforeseen events.

A tax-deductible gift of any size can help provide essential resources, support families in crisis, and restore hope in difficult moments. Every contribution goes directly toward helping those most in need. Together, we can respond with compassion, act with urgency, and make a real difference in the lives of others.

Please consider making a donation today.

Grazie,

Giovanni Lanza

Summer is a great time to travel and with that comes the opportunity to meet new people. English continues to be the universal language that allows people to interact with others around the world. We at The Sicilian Project understand this well, and that's why, thanks to your support, we've been offering Sicilians the opportunity to attend our free English courses for years.

SICILY WILDFIRE UPDATE – JULY 23, 2026

Parts of the Island are burning. Here's how you can help.

Sicily is once again facing a serious wildfire emergency.

Multiple fast-moving fires continue to burn across the island, fueled by extreme heat, dry vegetation, and strong winds. Firefighters, Civil Protection volunteers, forestry crews, and firefighting aircraft are working around the clock to protect homes, farms, and communities. In several areas, evacuations have been ordered as flames continue to threaten lives and property.

Confirmed fire activity has been reported in and around the Palermo area, the Agrigento region, the central interior near Nicosia and Piazza Armerina, and throughout parts of eastern Sicily, including Piedimonte Etneo, Ragalna, Santa Maria di Licodia, Caltagirone, and Francofonte. The situation remains fluid, and new fires may develop as conditions change.

Today, The Sicilian Project is focusing its relief efforts on the Palermo area, central Sicily, and other communities requesting assistance. Four of our directors are actively coordinating this response. Our president, Giovanni Lanza, together with Gasparino "Reno" Sadella, is directing relief efforts in western Sicily. Meanwhile, we along with our team of guides are monitoring conditions will respond to requests from affected communities.

Many of our friends, neighbors, and communities throughout Sicily are directly affected. We ask everyone to keep them—and the brave firefighters, Civil Protection personnel, and volunteers—in your thoughts and prayers.

If you would like to help those impacted by these devastating fires, please consider supporting our Sicilian Disaster Relief Fund.
