The Hardest Working Golfers Don’t Always Improve the Fastest
One of the biggest myths in golf is that more practice automatically leads to better results.
Recently, I evaluated a junior golfer whose goal is to play varsity golf and eventually compete at the college level.
Nobody could question her commitment.
For years, she worked with a coach 5 days a week, often for 3 hours at a time while also practicing on her own.
She was doing everything she thought she needed to do.
But when we measured her scoring zone performance, the results were eye-opening.
Despite all that practice, her performance from 50–100 yards projected to a handicap near 30.
The issue wasn’t effort.
The issue was direction.
The priorities being trained weren’t creating the skills needed to reach her goals.
And that’s where many golfers get stuck.
They assume more practice equals better results.
It doesn’t.
The right practice creates better results.
Before building a plan, we need to understand:
✅ What skills actually need improvement
✅ What creates the biggest impact
✅ What should be trained first
✅ How progress will be measured
Most golfers aren’t limited by effort.
They’re limited by direction.
That’s why every player at Dennis Sales Golf Academy starts with a comprehensive assessment process using GEARS 3D, TrackMan, SAM PuttLab and GASP Force Plates.
Our goal isn’t to have you practice more.
Our goal is to help you practice smarter.
Because the fastest-improving golfers aren’t always the ones who work the hardest.
They’re the ones who know exactly what they need to work on.
If you’ve been putting in the work but your scores aren’t improving, maybe it’s time to stop guessing and start assessing.
What part of your game do you think is costing you the most shots right now?

Three years.
Three championships.
Three successful title defenses.
A few years ago, one of my students came to me with a simple goal:
🏆 Win the trophy on his annual golf trip with friends.
Not a college scholarship.
Not a club championship.
Not a professional event.
Just beat his buddies and bring home the trophy.
So we built a plan.
We identified the priorities that would have the biggest impact on his scoring, created a structured roadmap, and got to work.
The result?
🥇 Champion.
🥇 Champion.
🥇 Champion.
And now we’re preparing for title defense number four.
This is what we do at Dennis Sales Golf Academy.
Every golfer has different goals.
Some want to break 100.
Some want to break 80.
Some want to make their high school team.
Some want to play college golf.
And some just want bragging rights on their annual golf trip.
The goal doesn’t matter.
The process does.
I’ve said it a million times:
Golfers don’t need more random practice.
Golfers don’t need unlimited range balls.
Golfers don’t need another YouTube tip.
What golfers need is a plan.
They need structure.
They need a system that identifies what’s actually costing them shots and a roadmap to improve it.
That’s why every player who comes through our doors starts with an assessment process. We identify the priorities, build a customized improvement plan and focus practice on the things that actually move scores.
Over 20 years of coaching has taught me one thing:
The golfers who improve the fastest aren’t always the most talented.
They’re the ones who know exactly what they need to work on.
So let me ask you:
❓ What are your golf goals?
❓ What’s holding your game back?
❓ Do you have a roadmap - or are you still guessing?
If you’re ready for a structured plan built around your game, we’re here to help.

Most golfers don’t need more practice.
They need the right practice.
Too many players spend hours beating balls on the range, working on random drills, watching YouTube videos and trying FREE tip after tip…
Only to keep shooting the same scores.
Sound familiar?
The reality is this:
Improvement doesn’t come from unlimited practice indoor or outdoor.
It comes from having a structured plan built around what actually happens on the golf course.
That’s exactly why players come to us.
For more than 20 years, our coaching systems and processes have been refined, tested, and proven with golfers of all ages and skill levels. We don’t guess. We assess, identify the root causes, and create a clear roadmap for improvement.
🏌️ Tired of making the same mistakes?
🏌️ Tired of practicing without seeing results?
🏌️ Tired of wondering what you should actually be working on?
I’m here at Lantana Golf Club performing an on-course assessment with a Denton Guyer golfer whose goal is to move to Varsity 1 team.
His goal may be different than yours, but the process is the same:
✅ Identify what’s holding performance back
✅ Build a personalized improvement plan
✅ Train the priorities that matter most
✅ Transfer those improvements onto the golf course
No matter your age, skill level, or goals, we can help you understand exactly what’s holding your game back and create a plan to move forward.
If you’re ready to stop guessing and start improving, let’s build a roadmap for your game.

2 of the Final 3 Players in the Final Group.
That’s pretty cool. 👊
Heading into the final round of the Texas-Oklahoma Junior Golf Championship, two Dennis Sales Golf Academy students are in the final group:
🏌️ Carter Bruton – 71-73
🏌️ Nate Richter – 72-73
As a coach, moments like this are special.
Not because of the scores themselves, but because I get to see the work that went into them.
The early mornings.
The difficult practice sessions.
The tournament rounds that didn’t go as planned.
The commitment to the process when results weren’t immediate.
Both Carter and Nate have trusted the process, committed themselves to improvement, and continued showing up ready to work.
That’s what long-term player development looks like.
People often see the scores and results. What they don’t see are the countless hours spent building skills, improving decision-making, refining technique, and learning how to compete under pressure.
I’m incredibly proud of both of them.

Would like to give a big thank you to Cobra Golf and Matt for giving the kids such a great experience.
Getting them behind the ropes and inside the Cobra Tour Van was something really special and a memory they won’t forget anytime soon.
Experiences like this help inspire the next generation and give young golfers a deeper appreciation for the game, equipment, and what happens at the highest level.
Very grateful for the opportunity 👊
