We love it when our students compose pieces. Here is Nathan playing his Halloween song called "Spooky Halloween". Notice that he chose the spooky key of A minor!

Starting to think about the Fall despite the heat. Hopefully you are too if you are thinking of giving your child the gift of music or yourself the gift of music. We believe that this is the best gift you can give - it's a gift that lasts a lifetime. I hear so many parents complain "they aren't practicing...they don't seem interested" yet these are the students who need music most. Having taught for eons I can tell you that given positive experiences with lessons the student will continue to explore music throughout their lives. This is important for their mental wellfare - something outside of the world they have to be in. Music is a way to escape if only for a few minutes! Think about it. The photo is from one of our Spring recitals at St Mary's in Ardmore. Get in touch if you want lessons - piano, guitar, sax, violin, viola, and cello.

Spring Recital time at Common Time Music! Steven Moyer's students played last week and now Julia Chukinas and Lydia Bianchi are having recitals for their students on 1 June and 8 of June respectively. Recitals are a great opportunity to share music making with friends, family, and even people you don't know. Our recitals are not pressured and we feel if you don't make a mistake then you haven't performed up to your ability! In all seriousness, with YouTube, students see all their pieces played perfectly - that is not the real world and we want them to understand that every time they play it is a wonderful experience. See Haven here practicing for his upcoming recital. Play on!

Lots of upcoming Spring recitals starting with May 5 when Steven Moyer's students will entertain us at Calliope Music Store. Then June 1 students of Julia Bryan Chukinas (and maybe some others) will be performing at St Mary's Episcopal in Ardmore. Everyone gets nervous performing yet it is a god thing to do. Let's face it, recitals are good practice for times in life when you have to be prepared and maybe a little nervous whether for a job interview or a speech. We try to get the kids and adults to see performing as a way of sharing what they have learned. It is all about making music! And just look who you might get to make the music with - in good company!

We have been having some fun recitals - here are Ms Julia's students at her June recital. Everyone played beautifully and we were so proud of everyone for performing. It is wonderful to share music with other people even if it might be a little nervewracking for some of us!
