Meet Our New Staff: Katherine Grainger 💙💛

We are excited to welcome Katherine Grainger to the RAM Family! Mrs. Grainger will be teaching CTE Computer Discoveries I & II this year.

Katherine grew up as a Navy brat before her family settled in Asheville while she was in high school. She attended T.C. Roberson High School and has called this area home since 2000. She also brings experience from both Estes and Glen Arden Elementary Schools.

Outside of school, Katherine enjoys Burn Bootcamp, road biking, and mountain biking. Her favorite movie is Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

Her advice for middle school students is one we can all appreciate: Don’t change who you are just to fit in. Your real friends will love you for exactly who you are. ❤️

And when asked why she is excited to join Valley Springs, Katherine said it best: “Once a Ram, always a Ram!” She is excited to share her love of technology with students and focus on computer science this year.

🐏 Meet Our New Staff! 💙💛

Please help us welcome Amy Boswell, our new 8th Grade Social Studies Teacher, to the Valley Springs Middle School family!

Amy brings 24 years of middle school teaching experience to VSMS, having taught both Language Arts and Social Studies throughout her career. Originally from Sarasota, Florida, she has called Asheville home for the past 26 years, where she lives with her husband, Max, and their son, Chase.

Outside of school, Amy enjoys traveling, camping, reading, mountain biking, and hiking. She also played both college and professional softball! While historical fiction is her favorite genre, she highly recommends the Harry Potter series to every reader.

One piece of advice Amy shares with middle school students is:

"Being a teenager may seem like it's the most difficult time in a person's life. It's definitely not easy. However, you can navigate this time by talking with your teachers and staff at school. We were teenagers once, too, and we've gone through difficult times as well. Many of us became teachers because someone helped us along the way. We've got you!"

When asked what she's most excited about this school year, Amy shared:

"I am excited to be part of the Valley Springs team of teachers who are committed to providing the best learning experience for students! Social Studies is my passion, and I'm excited to help my students better understand the history that shaped the world we live in today. GO RAMS!"

We're thrilled to have Amy join our team and can't wait for our students to learn from her passion, experience, and enthusiasm.

🐏 Meet Our New Staff! 💙💛

Please help us welcome Morgan Grooms, our new 7th Grade Math Teacher, to the Valley Springs Middle School family!

Morgan is a proud Buncombe County Schools graduate who attended Clyde A. Erwin High School, making her return to our district especially meaningful. We're excited to have her inspiring the next generation of mathematicians here at VSMS!

When she's not teaching, Morgan enjoys collecting vinyl records, loves Edgar Allan Poe's The Tell-Tale Heart, and has an impressive talent for memorizing and quoting entire movie scripts!

One piece of advice she lives by comes from her grandfather:

"Always follow the P-Plan: Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance."

When asked what she's most looking forward to this school year, Morgan shared:

"Our district is full of incredible students, families, and educators, and I'm excited to continue being part of the Ram Family in a new role. I look forward to reconnecting with familiar faces while getting to know many new ones."

We're thrilled to have Morgan join our team and can't wait for our students to learn and grow with her this year.
