I wonder...I notice...I see...a little something to take into the week ahead.
These three simple sentence starters can provide an open ended space to connect with your child or student.
This is the language we really focus on at Meri Cherry and we’ve found it to be truly effective in creating relationships with our students and our children.
It might sound something like...wow, I see you’re using a lot of yellow. I wonder if you you’ll use yellow throughout your work or change to another color. How interesting.
Or something like...I notice Kaia is taking really great care of her materials. I see her putting the caps back carefully on each marker. I wonder who else is going to take great care of their supplies.
Here’s one more possibility...Wow, I see all these curvy lines you made here. So interesting. I wonder how you came up with that idea.
Practicing this language creates a safe environment where children feel comfortable to express themselves freely and that their choices have value and are seen by those around them.
