Many of our former students may remember a demonstration we often did in our CHL classes, in an effort to educate our students on how illogical the calls are to ban modern sporting rifles (which the media incorrectly labels as assault or assault-style rifles).
We would show them a black MSR, with pistol grip, collapsible stock, bayonet lug, flash suppressor, and 30-round standard-capacity magazine, and the round for which it was chambered - the .223 or 5.56 caliber.
Then we would pull out a 80 year-old rifle with a plain wood stock, chambered in .30-06 - the caliber used in yesterday's assassination, and show them that round.
In the photo below, the .30-06 is on the left, and the .223 on the right.
Too many politicians have spend all their time trying to ban rifles chambered for the round on the right, simply because those rifles look scarier...
What they really should have been focusing on is the complete rotting of the moral fabric of our society, the failure to provide adequate mental-health treatments, and the refusal to get criminals off of our streets.
