Student Spotlight-

Liam Ballon is studying Business Administration and Management while actively putting it to work. While in school, he’s been running a mobile auto repair service across Humboldt County, bringing car maintenance directly to his customers.

From brake jobs and oil changes to diagnostics and battery replacements, Liam handles a wide range of services, all while managing the day-to-day realities of running a business. What he’s learning in classes like entrepreneurship, marketing, and operations shows up in how he prices his work, connects with customers, and keeps everything running smoothly.

Hands-on experience that goes far beyond the classroom, setting him up for continued success well beyond graduation.

Student spotlight: meet Robby Bennet who is turning creativity, technical skill, and entrepreneurship into real-world momentum. From helping develop an automated social media advertising tool for real estate companies, to building a dropshipping website, to working toward launching his own live event production company, Robby is already putting his ideas into action.

Through his classes, he is learning business logistics, entrepreneurship, and problem-solving skills that help him think strategically about building and growing a company. At the same time, his background in theater and lighting design is strengthening the technical and creative foundation he needs for a future in live production.

With experience working major shows and a passion for design, lighting, and live events, Robby is using what he learns in the classroom to support ventures that are both innovative and deeply connected to his real interests. It is exciting to see a student take academic knowledge and apply it so directly to building a future.

In BA 438, students learned from SK Lee, former founder, angel investor and business coach, about using AI as a real business-building tool.

Her message was clear: AI is most powerful when entrepreneurs use it with intention. Instead of asking vague questions, we should build prompts that include context, specific goals, desired formats, and even requests for AI to challenge our blind spots.

SK shared her LAUNCH prompt framework to help students use AI for:

target market research
competitive analysis
investor prep
refining business plan ideas
identifying risks and opportunities

One of the most valuable takeaways was that AI should not just give answers, it should help us think better, ask sharper questions, and strengthen our ideas.

Thank you, SK Lee, for showing BA 438 how better prompts can lead to better business strategy.
