Taking it all in…. And that’s exactly what we did this past weekend when we visited Surf Point Coffee House in Shelter Cove, California.

Quite possibly the most remote and beautiful café you can find. Nestled in the seaside village we know as “The Cove”, this is a must visit.

What Natalie and her team brought to the table for this area is on another level 🙏🏼. When we first started off as a roasting company, they took a chance on us as a new roaster to the community and we couldn’t be MORE GRATEFUL.

It is hands-down, my favorite place to grab a cup of coffee. Taking sips on the edge of a cliff, overlooking the ocean and watching whales breach is an experience like no other.

**This coming up weekend I encourage our local crowds to visit this area as they’ll be hosting the Paradise Royale Mountain Bike Race, put together by Mountain Bike Tribal Trail Alliance (MBTTA) and numerous community volunteers. Race will take place October 10th**

This one is big…. In so many ways, coffees from Kenya present a distinct characteristic of Origin. Since the arrival of this Peaberry, it has stood out in so many ways.

If I had to compare it to a w**e, I would say this is a big cup. For a washed process to carry so much fruit characteristics it’s impressive. The complexity of this coffee presents as the temperature changes. Starts with a ton of stone fruit that we note as turkish apricot with blackcurrant jam. Presence of a heavy body and syrupy texture is constant all the way through. Almost viscous. As the cup cools, date syrup and tamarind plum lollipop show up.

Admittedly, I am partial, Kenya is my favorite Origin. We love supporting farmers from around the world and this coffee comes from smallholder lots who farm 1-2 hectares acres only. Shout out Red Fox Coffee Merchants for sourcing yet another exemplary coffee.

Growth is a journey…. And in case you missed it over the summer, we have opened ourselves seven days a week with weekend service, Saturday 9 AM to 2 PM and Sunday 9 AM to 1 PM.

Being open on the weekends has been our number one request over the past year and a half. THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU that supported that part of our journey and given us the confidence to do so.

Honestly, I was skeptical, whether or not people would journey all the way into the heart of the industrial park on a weekend away from the downtown scene. Lo and behold, we’re starting to catch our flow.

As you know early autumn can be some of our finest weather. So invite you to come on out and enjoy our patio.

The grounding force of nature….what a crazy year it’s been, and without two things in my life I’d probably go a little cuckoo, and that’s the backcountry and coffee.

Both of which I find best shared with friends and family. Maybe on some rock furniture.

This past year has been full of changes, personal and professional growth, but not without its obstacles and stresses.

Not sure if heading into the backcountry is just an excuse to have that morning cup of coffee in solitude with an amazing view or if it’s just the perfect combination of time and space.

Surely I’m grateful to live where we live; have access to these things and be surrounded by good people and good coffee.

Shoutout to the best gear I’ve packed with, introduced to me by a buddy, Fire Maple is no joke. Perfect kettle, the pour rate is on point, boils up in seconds, nothing works better at elevation for the coffee head.

Always love the interaction… still can’t believe I’m doing what I love. I’ve always had a passion for coffee and love sharing it with others. There are times I recall sharing the goods as a home roaster. My friends and family would just roll their eyes listening to me wax poetically about coffee. Haha as it goes.

Fast forward some 20 years and here we are. I cannot say this enough. THANK YOU!!! WITHOUT YOU THERE IS NO US

Summer season is upon us, and that means our shop has seen a nice flow rate of people willing to come sit outside on the patio in an unlikely space. Built with one thing in mind, and that’s good coffee. We love our coffee community we’ve built from scratch, it’s been a lot of work thus far. But the rewards are greater than any dollar that passes through the door.

Our area is abundant with place to go. Especially outside in nature. But if you’re not sure where to go or haven’t visited our area here’s just a few spots that I’ll share…I swear no beeeeeps ;)

Getting down to the final roast… as we wrap up the supplies of our latest coffee from Bali, Indonesia I wanted to highlight this one before it’s gone.

A heavy, syrupy and lingering cup with a sweet finish. Carries a little bit of the robust, traditional characteristics of a higher roast level while only coming in at a light medium roast. This coffee is very versatile and can be brewed great in any format.

My family and I have had the pleasure of visiting this area in the high reaches of Vulcan Batur, in the Kintamani region of Bali. These are small holder lots and family operated farms. Every farm carries the craft of landscape art. Plants tended by hand in alluvial volcanic soil on steep slopes. It’s truly a place of juxtaposition where the hot humid days turn to cool nights. Ideal conditions for the shrub :)

We’re here for it, and I hope you are too…. Supporting stewardship at the farm is at the forefront of our mission. That’s what we’re after with our latest coffee from Brazil and the family of Fazenda Três Meninas.

Três Meninas is a regenerative, organic farm in the heart of Brazil’s coffee growing region. With an eye on stewardship of their land, you can’t get a cleaner cup of coffee.

Roasted medium, the cup is creamy, sweet, nutty and chocolatey. Comfort cup all the way. Doesn’t matter how this coffee is brewed up. It comes out true each and every time. House favorite brewing formats are french press and espresso, where texture and body are the highlights.
