This year, the 911 class of 2026 elected Ailyn Almaraz-Mendoza as their president. Their choosing of Ailyn for leadership proved to be a wise decision and has resulted in them being the most active 911 class in terms of school and community involvement. What many of them may not know is that Ailyn’s commitment to this year’s 911 Program began long before she was selected for leadership.
Ailyn assisted me her junior year in the recruitment process for our 2026 911 Program, by communicating with recruits and accompanying them when they needed to speak with me. She produced ideas and plans for community involvement and fundraising the school year before her class was to begin. Her vision and dedication gave her class momentum for what was to be an unprecedented and successful year.
In service to the 911 class of 2025, Ailyn volunteered at their awards ceremony. There she honored the success of the class of 2025 while envisioning the future for the class of 2026. She led by example through the act of serving food and cleaning up after the event.
Ailyn has led study sessions for her group and the class many times unprompted. She identifies students who are struggling and extends a helping hand. She often does this at the expense of her own study time. She sacrifices for the sake of others and puts her whole heart into what she does. Her initiative as a leader is unprecedented in my experience working with high school students. She has independently taken on projects that benefit her classmates and the community. As a leader she works hard to alleviate the burden of others and excels at doing so.
Ailyn’s altruistic spirit and integrity make her a positive leader for our 911 leadership team. I have observed her selfless service to her classmates every week and often daily since the start of the year. Her compassion and virtue set her apart. She has extended a hand to classmates in need and reached out to classmates who missed class to make sure they were okay.
Ailyn consistently pushes her limits and has become a great leader and public speaker as a result. Her ability to rally the team to a cause is particularly admirable. She consistently places value on the contributions of others and is always working to encourage her peers. She has modeled our 911 program values well: integrity, respect, service, and humility. She deserves to be recognized as the 911 Program’s student of the quarter.
