Mrs. Duprey’s class explored the colorful artwork of Wassily Kandinsky during their artist study! Children learned about his use of colors, shapes, lines, and circles before creating their own inspired masterpieces.

🎨 Artist studies help preschoolers develop creativity, observation skills, self-expression, and confidence while discovering that there are many ways to create art.

⭕ Those circles also provided important pre-writing practice! Making circles strengthens fine-motor control, hand coordination, and the controlled movements needed for future writing.

We love when art and learning come together!

🚒👩‍🚒 Community Helpers: Firefighters! 👨‍🚒🚑

What an exciting day at LHLC! As part of our Community Helpers unit, we were thrilled to welcome the Cicero Fire Department for a special visit!

Our littles learned all about fire safety and smoke detectors, as well as the special clothing, equipment, and tools firefighters use to help keep our community safe.

The fun didn’t stop there! Everyone received firefighter hat, walked through the firetruck, and peeked inside the ambulance. Ms. S even got to take a special ride on the ladder truck!

A huge THANK YOU to the Cicero Fire Department for spending time with us, teaching us, and giving our students such a fun, hands-on learning experience!

🎨 At LHLC, it’s all about the PROCESS—not perfection! 🖌️

When it comes to art, we love giving our little artists the freedom to explore, create, experiment, and let their imaginations lead the way! Our use of "process art" focuses on the experience of creating rather than everyone making the same finished product.

Through painting, gluing, sculpting, and mixing children build creativity, confidence, problem-solving skills, fine motor development, and so much more!

You may not always be able to tell exactly what it is—and that’s okay! The magic is in the thinking, exploring, and creating that happens along the way.

Our first few weeks were all about getting to know ourselves, our classrooms, and our school! Students learned about the important people who make LHLC great—from directors and teachers to our SRO and other school helpers.

They also discovered their important job as students! Children are learning that everyone has a role to play and that their choices and actions help make our classroom community a safe, caring, and successful place to learn. 💙

We’re so excited to see our students discovering that they are an important part of what makes LHLC great!

What may look like “just play” is actually serious learning happening right before our eyes.

Through play, our preschoolers are:
🧱 Building problem-solving and spatial skills
🗣️ Developing language and communication
🤝 Practicing cooperation, sharing, and friendship
❤️ Building confidence, independence, and self-regulation

Play is not a break from learning—it is how young children learn best!

LHLC was fortunate to partner with HHHS Tomorrow’s Teachers Program to have these amazing students spend time with our littles almost everyday during 2nd semester. Wishing you both the best of luck in your next adventure. Watching your passion and excitement working with our little Huskies, we know you both will be incredible teachers!

Field Day fun was a success! From obstacle courses to water games and nonstop laughter, our preschoolers had the BEST day making memories with friends.
