"One horse owner told the Board to put us in our place. To the Board Chair’s credit, he made it clear that we have every right to be at this open public meeting.
"They got many ears full from us, speaking on several Agenda Items, plus the General Public Comment period at the end of the meeting.

Corrupt industry again on display this month ...
"• No specific violations have been alleged yet but a Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority - HISA investigation continues into circumstances, including unusual betting activity, surrounding upset victories Aug. 9 at Saratoga and Monmouth Park by four horses returning from layoffs and prepared by low-profile trainers at the Fair Hill (Md.) training center. Possibly related: One of the trainers, Angel Quiroz, could face a two-year suspension and $25,000 fine after the Aug. 13 announcement that another of his horses tested positive for the prohibited bronchodilator albuterol in an out-of-competition sample taken in July.
"• In a fresh racing scandal, owner, breeder and major tournament-winning handicapper Marshall Gramm is accused of improperly obtaining and sharing health information about other people’s horses from the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority - HISA computer system. Having such data could give Gramm an edge in claiming horses and making bets. Gramm, the economics department chair at Rhodes College in Memphis, issued a statement saying the real issue is the vulnerability of the HISA system."
[Gramm is son of former U.S. Senator Phil Gramm and wife Wendy Gramm, both central to the huge Enron scandal.]

Del Mar Racing wagering handle last weekend (Thu-Sun) was DOWN 4.2% from 2025 even with 1 more race this year and the Avg Field Size this year was DOWN 9%.
THIS after 3 young horses died racing there in the first 3 weeks of this summer's racing meet: Valentina Jan on August 6th, and Can You Dream and Cornucopian on July 26th.
Del Mar’s biggest competition, Saratoga in upstate New York, had over Twice the Del Mar wagering handle on just 36% more races than Del Mar last week.
Let's put the horses out of the industry's misery and pull the plug -- Repeal the legalization of betting on live horses first added to the California Constitution in 1933 by California voters to raise revenue during the Great Depression. Our California Legislature can put this on the November 2028 Ballot by voting to do so by June 2028.

This CA Dept of Food & Ag senior executive Michael Flores has been very involved at the 22nd DAA/ Del Mar Fairgrounds through the Del Mar Race Track Authority and State Race Track Leasing Commission, serving as CDFA Director's rep on both bodies.
"In five cases, Flores attended meetings between the fairgrounds and the company, according to interviews and public records. One of those meetings was a tour with the Del Mar Fairgrounds, which Ellesse Flores also attended, according to fairgrounds CEO Becky Berlinger. [Sic, assume they mean Bartling.]
"Berlinger said she recalled being told that Ellesse Flores was a member of the Global Stack team and related to Michael Flores.
"But the conversation focused mostly on the fairgrounds and not Global Stack’s proposal, so she didn’t think much of the familial connection, she said. The fairgrounds hasn’t invited Global Stack to do a formal presentation or moved forward with the project, according to Berlinger."
