*Three Racing Deaths of Horses in Three Days at the Two Racetracks Operating in California*

Ebok’s Dream Girl was the Second Racing Death in Two Nights at Los Alamitos Race Course, after Empressum who died Racing there Saturday night.

This was the Ninth time Mici’s Express has been raced this year, and was last raced on September 26th at Santa Anita Park. He’s been raced 28 times going back to his first start at Santa Anita Park on April 30, 2023.

Mici’s Express has had Three Trainers in Six Months — Published research shows that changing Trainers (barns) increases the risk of fatal injury in Thoroughbred racehorses: "Dr. Tim Parkin presented data at the 2014 Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation Welfare and Safety Summit that showed switching barns... increases the risk of fatal injury. Racing at Monmouth Park and the Meadowlands continues to struggle as the season end and current legislation prevents future growth.

Ebok’s Dream Girl was last raced on September 12th in the Los Alamitos Race Course Thoroughbred Meet, finishing First in Race 8 for a $15,000 Purse (prize money), comparable to the $14,500 Purse for which she was raced Sunday night.

On May 16th, Ebok’s Dream Girl was Claimed (purchased) for $5,000 out of Race 1 at Los Alamitos Race Course by her current Trainer and Co-Owner, Angela Aquino, from Trainer Charles Treece, who had Claimed Ebok’s Dream Girl on April 4, 2026, from Aquino in Race 2 at Los Alamitos Race Course for $8,000.

"The Daily Racing Form said the even-money favorite 'broke slowly and appeared to take an awkward step a few strides into the race. He was unable to put weight on his right hind leg.' The publication quoted Jeff Blea, the California Horse Racing Board’s equine medical director, saying the horse 'collapsed and died' on the track.

"Mike Marten, the California Horse Racing Board’s public information officer, told City News Service that Empressum 'was vanned off but died (not euthanized) in the horse ambulance.'

"Empressum had 43 official races in his career, with 26 first-place finishes and 11 second-place finishes. His career earnings topped $2.7 million, according to the industry website Equibase. He had won his prior race, at Re*****on Park in Oklahoma City on May 30.

"He is the 11th horse to die from a racing or training injury at Los Alamitos Race Course this year. The Cypress track experienced 19 racing and training deaths in 2025, according to California Horse Racing Board data."
