One last thing I wanted to share before the season really gets rolling. Toward the end of last year I calculated win probability ratings for every team in NorCal, using an idea I liked from a college baseball website. Here are the preseason ratings for every 11-man school in the Northern Section. They are based on opponents' ratings from last season, with adjustments depending on whether a game is home or away.

The simple way to read this chart is, if an average NorCal team played Chico's schedule, they would be expected to win 3 games (.305 win probability). If they played Etna's schedule, you'd expect the "average" team to earn a 7-3 record. Of course, there's a wide variety of talent levels across any region, and obviously health, grades/player eligibility, coaching, and so much more factor into a team's season. To me, this is really just a quick way to compare team strength of schedule across the different divisions.

If you're wondering, Chico's rating for last season was .392, which is a pretty significant difference. Adding Woodcreek, Jesuit, & Manteca to your schedule really moves the needle!

PV is always known for a brutal non-league schedule, but this year's score is actually a bit higher than last year, when their win probability was .270!
