House Sorting Day 2026
🖤❤️💚💙
When the Envelope Opens…
ALTRUISMO. Givers. A house rooted in service, generosity, and putting others before yourself.
AMISTAD. Friendship. A house built on connection, loyalty, kindness, and the belief that no one walks alone.
ISIBINDI. Courage. A house that stands for bravery, perseverance, and the strength to face challenges head-on.
RĂŠVEUR. Dreamer. A house fueled by imagination, creativity, hope, and the courage to dream beyond what seems possible.
Four houses. Four identities. Four communities. ONE FAMILY.
And once a year, we get to watch a very special moment unfold as our newest Knights discover which one will become theirs.
House Sorting Day.
For our new third graders and students who are new to Arab Elementary, the anticipation begins long before the envelopes are opened. They wait for their class to be called. They watch. They wonder. They wait patiently for the moment when Mrs. Brown places an envelope into their hands. They hold that envelope tightly, knowing that inside is a card that will tell them something they will carry with them for years to come.
Then the countdown begins.
3… 2… 1…
The envelopes tear open.
The cards come out.
And suddenly, there it is.
Their house.
The house they will belong to.
The house that becomes part of their story.
The house they will carry with them throughout their years at Arab Elementary—and long after.
Then comes the moment we love most.
Faculty members gather the newest members from the stage and run them to their new houses, where students are already waiting—watching, cheering, calling them in.
New house cards are lifted high.
Faces light up.
High fives. Hugs. Cheers. Smiles.
And just like that, a student who walked into House Sorting Day wondering “Where will I belong?” is surrounded by people shouting, “You belong with us!”
That is the beauty of the House System.
It is competition, but it is so much more than competition.
It is belonging.
It is connection.
It is friendship.
It is service.
It is courage.
It is dreaming big.
It is finding your people and knowing that you are part of something bigger than yourself.
Throughout the year, our houses learn, serve, compete, celebrate, encourage one another, earn points, build relationships, and create memories together. They cheer for one another and challenge one another. They learn that every person matters and that every contribution counts.
Because when you become part of a house, you aren’t simply assigned a color or given a name.
You are given a place to belong.
And for our newest Knights, that journey began Friday—with one envelope, one card, one house…
…and a whole lot of people ready to welcome them home. 🖤❤️💚💙
Welcome to your house, Knights.
We’ve been waiting for you.
