Welcome Jacob — Playwell’s Pitching Coordinator ⚾️
We’re excited to welcome Jacob to the Playwell Baseball & Softball team as our Pitching Coordinator!
Jacob brings a strong background in both playing and coaching, with a passion for developing pitchers and helping young athletes reach their full potential.
Jacob played collegiately at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where he was a member of the 2012 Conference USA Championship team. Following his playing career, he immediately transitioned into coaching, working with travel baseball programs at Spain Park before relocating to Pensacola, Florida. While in Pensacola, Jacob continued developing young athletes through individual pitching instruction and coaching competitive travel teams throughout the area.
Most recently, Jacob spent six seasons (2021–2026) at West Florida High School under Head Coach Joe Rieland. He began as the Head JV Coach in 2021 before transitioning into the varsity Pitching Coach role from 2022–2026. During his tenure, he helped guide the program to five consecutive playoff appearances, while working with several pitchers who went on to earn opportunities to play at the collegiate level.
Jacob’s pitching philosophy centers on three core principles: development, confidence, and competition. He believes successful pitching development goes beyond mechanics and velocity. His approach focuses on helping pitchers understand their individual strengths, develop confidence in their abilities, and learn how to compete effectively while continually improving areas of weakness.
Jacob and his family recently relocated to Arab, Alabama. He and his wife have two daughters, June Claire (8) and Maggie (5), and are excited to put down roots and become involved in the local community.
As Playwell’s Pitching Coordinator, Jacob’s vision is to establish a comprehensive, development-focused pitching program built on strong relationships with players and their families. His priority is creating an environment where athletes can grow, compete, and reach their potential while placing an emphasis on arm health, trust, and long-term development.
“My goal is to build a pitching program where players and families know we are invested in more than just their next outing or next season. We want to develop confident competitors, build lasting relationships, and create a foundation that allows each pitcher to succeed while prioritizing their health and long-term future.”
