Why This Era?
Standing on the porch of the McLean House, tipping my hat to General Lee, the significance of that moment was overwhelming for countless reasons.

But one realization rose above all the others.
For thousands of men who stood on these very grounds in April of 1865, this was not simply the end of a war. It was the beginning of a new chapter.
Standing there, my own historical journey suddenly came into focus.
