Camille Baldassar is here at Cub Creek Foundation for 3.5 months as a short term artist-in-residence and we are thrilled to have her energy!

One of Camille’s biggest benefits of being in this remote region of Virginia, among this group of talented artists, is absorbing time expansively to better “listen” to the creative process.

Camille describes her work as the music that lives between the human body and the rest of the natural world. It is a contemplation of the story of rhythm and flow that defines our inner and outer life.

With her background in wood-fired, sculptural ceramics and her love for that firing process, she continues to discover and transform what she loves about working in this natural medium.

Camille will be returning in 2027 to lead an Anagama workshop called “Form & Fill”. Stay tuned for more details on that event.

We have a room and studio available starting October 1, 2026!

Residencies are one month to three years.

Cub Creek Foundation offers wood-fired ceramic artists the opportunity to create and focus while living on a beautiful, rural, non-working farm.
Artists can buy their clay materials from Richmond, and dig, process, and research native clay - we have 3 deposits onsite. We have a Soldner mixer.
We have a variety of wood kilns to fire. We are planning to fire the Noborigama this October, so you would be here for that workshop! We collect our wood from the mill as well as received wood donations. Wood prep is mandatory.
The bedroom has been painted, there is a twin bed, closet rack and dresser. One bathroom is shared with three people. Weekly cleaning chores are mandatory.
Artists are encouraged to find work and build their network in Farmville, Appomattox, or Lynchburg. Richmond, Charlottesville, and Roanoke are an hour and a half away from Appomattox. VA beaches are three hours away. Lots of outdoor activities and the roads are great for biking.

COST: $1,100 a month
Cost includes:
Room at the resident’s house, utilities at the resident’s house, studio, utilities at the studio, electric kiln use, wood-fire kilns, studio equipment such as Soldner mixer, slab roller, kick wheel, electric wheel, and other shared tools.

Security deposit (refundable at move out) - $200
Cleaning fee (non refundable) - $100
