Project Techspace is a two-week summer camp. The camp is interactive, academic, and personally enriching for students in 7th and 8th grade. Camp will begin with a 5 hour retreat on Saturday, and it will continue Monday through Friday for the following 2 weeks. Camp will culminate with a "graduation celebration" the last Friday morning. The experience is funded by a competitive grant for 30 students. Students qualify for the grant funding by being eligible for free and reduced lunch. We have received many requests in the past to allow students to attend who do not qualify for grant funding, so additional students will be accepted into the program for a fee of $425 per student. The project will emphasize innovative learning experiences which integrate core course content (math, science, reading, writing, and oral communication) and career/technical education pathways. The format will include: large and small group activities, teambuilding activities, individual journaling, portfolio development, art projects, a field trip, and a volunteer service activity. Subject areas will also include personal success, health awareness, and career awareness. The students will learn about college, go on field trips to a variety of FVTC academic departments, and have authentic hands-on experiences. The daily schedule will include:
• Large group briefing over healthy meal
• 90 minute class period
• break
• 90 minute class period
• Time for journaling and 1 minute daily evaluation
