New floral design studio to support Wisconsin flower farmers, offer personalized creations
On August 1, Evergreen Florist of Appleton will open its floral design studio, located at 1124 N. Mason Street. The studio is the culmination of a lifetime dream for award-winning floral designer Joe Whitehouse.
He and his partner, Spencer Seim, first met when they both worked for Charles the Florist, a favorite downtown Appleton business for more than 50 years. Generations of customers were sorry to see it close earlier this year.
For some new businesses, the midst of a global pandemic might be a less-than-ideal time to launch. But not for Evergreen Florist. “Flowers connect people even when they’re physically distant – whether six feet or six hundred miles,” says Whitehouse.
Evergreen Florist of Appleton will feature flowers grown by local and regional farmers and offer no-contact delivery, curbside pick-up, and a subscription service. They will provide flowers and plants for everyday occasions, get well, sympathy, birthdays, weddings, and other special events.
In the days ahead, you’re likely to find Whitehouse and Seim planting a garden outside the Mason Street studio. Look for hop vines, native perennials, and flowers to attract pollinators, thanks to an assist from the Appleton Seed Library. These young entrepreneurs hope pedestrians and bicyclists will take in the garden and magnificent window displays.
Get a first peek at Whitehouse’s work starting in early July when his floral designs will be offered at Green Gecko’s new location at 222 E. College Avenue.
Starting August 1, order online (evergreenfloristofappleton.com) or by phone (920-903-0347). Evergreen will deliver your creation or you can pick it up at the studio. You’ll be able to review photographs of your floral design before delivery.
