A recent case from California’s Civil Rights Department is a reminder that workplace rights go beyond wages and overtime.

On August 12, 2026, the Civil Rights Department announced a $230,000 settlement with the City of Simi Valley following allegations of sexual harassment and disability discrimination.

The settlement also requires training on California protections against:
• Workplace discrimination
• Sexual harassment
• Retaliation

Why does this matter?
Because a healthy workplace isn't just about getting paid correctly. Workers also deserve to be treated with dignity, fairness, and respect.

If something doesn't feel right at work, knowing your rights can be an important first step toward understanding your options.

California workers have the right to a safe and healthy workplace, including protection from heat illness. 💪🏽⚖️

⚠️ Know the warning signs: fatigue/weakness, heavy sweating, headache, cramps, dizziness, high pulse rate, and nausea/vomiting.

💧 Act early: Get to shade or a cooler area, rest, drink water, and cool down.

🚨 If someone shows signs of heat stroke or is unresponsive, call 911 immediately.

Your safety matters. Know your rights, speak up, and look out for your coworkers. ❤️‍🩹
