After reading the novel A Long Walk to Water, 5th graders continued their support for the Ugandan Water Project, which helps bring clean water and prevent waterborne diseases for thousands in Uganda, home to our very own Father Francis. 5th graders prayed a decade of the Rosary for communities in Uganda and around the world, then participated in a water-carrying walk simulation to deepen their understanding of the reality of others’ daily lives. As they walked, they lifted up Father Francis’s community and Salva Dut (a main character in the novel) in prayer, reflecting on how their awareness and fundraising can provide clean water.
