We are very saddened by the tragic events across our country. We are disheartened by the hurt happening in our communities. We stand with those who are in pain and want to use books and our place in the industry to help give a voice for positive and generational change.

Now, as always, the future of our world depends on the education of our children. We have begun and will continue to intentionally build a catalog of titles that can act as both mirrors and windows. Mirrors to see not only a reflection of ourselves but also areas where we can grow. Windows to see into the lives of others to find common ground, gain new insights, and appreciate the beauty of diversity. (Credit given to Rudine Sims Bishop, Professor emeritus at Ohio State for the concept of books being mirrors and windows.)

We listen, we watch, we learn, we support, and we read. We share anger and sadness, we feel heartache and strength, we promote empathy, diversity, perspective-taking, and change-making, and we advocate. We open books and we talk. One child at a time. For children. For families. For the present. For the future.

If we can then we must. And we must, so we will. We will initiate discussions to continue to improve diversity and representation in the children’s book industry, as well as among our Consultants. The need for increased diversity is real and we are committed to doing all that we can to continue our mission of fostering strong family values and touching the lives of children for a lifetime.
