Moving your body gracefully through different emotions, isolating a dance step to a particular beat in music, allowing yourself to sway to a rhythm that makes you forget everything else—is all a part of dance therapy. Where do you start? What do you do? How does it work? These are all valid questions, but perhaps the most important question is-do you believe in dance?

Nartan Pushpam-the flower of dance: We give flowers the resources to blossom: soil, sunlight, water, love, but the growing must happen on it’s own. After the flower blossoms and descends to the ground, it becomes one with the soil that it came from. The student blossoms into this flower only to find that this art of bharatnatyam is his/her connection with nature, the world, and ultimately the universe as an entity.
