The monsoon is toad time. There are many species of toads in Arizona, but only one that is dangerous to dogs. The Sonoran Desert Toad is large, olive green, and may or may not have light brown spots. If your dog comes in contact with one of these toads, seek emergency help immediately. Ignore advice to give Benadryl, essential oils, etc.
You can reduce the chances of encounters by doing all you can to prevent excess water on your property. Sometimes that's easy, like fixing a leaky hose or AC drip. But sometimes it means making hard decisions for the safety of your pets ... if you have a thirsty plant (including the lawn) that requires persistent wet ground, you can count on some amphibian visitors if you're near native desert.

We'll post this several times throughout the monsoon.

Whether it's the loss of a friend, a family member, or a beloved dog, our many connections in the show world also mean we may face loss more often than people in other communities do. When loss strikes, consider the following to help you through it:
π Feel your feelings, and express them
π Turn to friends and family for support
π Avoid letting others tell you how to feel
π Draw comfort from your faith or belief system
π Take care of yourself physically and try to maintain interests
And if it is someone else is grieving, consider the following ways you can support them as a friend:
π Donβt let fears about saying or doing the wrong thing stop you from reaching out.
π Let your grieving loved one know that youβre there to listen, and then do
π Avoid platitudes such as, "there is a purpose in all things"
π Understand that everyone grieves differently and for different lengths of time.
π Offer to help in practical ways such as meals, cleaning, errands, etc
π Continue support over time
Being SHOW-SAFE means looking out for one another. It means sharing the grief process when the unexpected happens.
