Hello Smith Springs Families,

Here is your parent update for the week of May 4th:

*Please read the May parent newsletter: https://app.smore.com/n/h20am. The newsletter contains information about many of our end of year events, including our school play and end of year awards ceremonies. The full schedule for the school play as well as the full schedule for awards ceremonies can be found in the newsletter. The newsletter can be translated to any language by clicking on the Translate button. We hope that you will come see our school’s production of Frozen! Performances will be taking place this week on Wednesday- Saturday!

*Congratulations to our students in grades 3-5! They have completed TCAP testing! We still have FAST testing going on for students in all grade levels for the remainder of the school year. Therefore, it is important that students continue to come to school on time each day. In addition, third graders must complete AimsWeb testing, and some third graders will also need to complete TCAP retake testing for ELA depending on their original score. We also have rewards and incentives coming up that require students to have excellent attendance and good behavior the last few weeks of school.

*The Week of May 4-8 is National Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week! If you would like to purchase a gift for your child’s teachers and staff, you can click on this link and see their list of “favorite things”. When you click on each box under the columns, the list will expand so that you can see all items that they like. 25-26 SSES Favorite Things.xlsx

*REMINDER: There is no school for students on Tuesday May 5th due to Election Day.

*Congratulations to our five students who performed at the MNPS Elementary Music Festival at TPAC (photo attached)! Also, congratulations to 4th grade student Cole Cohen! Her artwork was chosen to be displayed at the MNPS district offices (photo attached)!

Hello Smith Springs families,
Here is your parent update for the week of April 20th.
*Next week, TCAP testing for grades 3-5 begins! I have attached some photos showing important reminders for parents showing how you can help us at home to make sure your child is ready to be successful on the test. Testing dates are April 20, 21, 22, 28, 29, and 30. The most important thing that we need for you to do is to make sure your child is at school every testing day and is on time to school as well. Students who arrive late or are absent will have to do a makeup test. We would like to avoid having to administer makeup tests if possible. We appreciate your support! Our teachers have worked hard to make sure our students are ready for the test, and our students are definitely ready to show what they know!
*FAST testing also continues for students in grades Pre-K-2nd grade. It is important for students in these grade levels to be at school every day and on time as well. Just like our 3rd-5th graders, they are ready to do their best on the tests!
*Over the weekend, I’ll be posting about some fun activities we have done this week to pump students up for testing! We also have several incentives going on right now for students to earn based on perfect attendance during testing, awesome behavior, and outstanding effort on the tests!
Have a great weekend and return to school on Monday ready to go!

Hello Smith Springs Families,
Here is your parent update for the week of April 13th.
*On Monday 4/13, we will kick off FAST testing for students in all grade levels. On Monday 4/20, we will kick off TCAP testing for grades 3-5. It is important that all students in all grade levels are attending school every day for the remaining weeks of the school year. We also have lots of fun rewards and incentives that students can earn for having perfect attendance, 95% attendance and no tardies for the remaining days of school. We want every student to be able to earn and participate in these incentives! One of the favorite incentives that we do every year is our inflatable bounce party. Students must have perfect attendance on testing days, put forth excellent effort on their tests, and have great behavior between now and the date of the event on May 12th in order to attend.
*If your child participates in school banking, Wilson Bank and Trust is scheduled to be at our school on Tuesday.
*If you were not able to attend the TCAP parent meeting for grades 3-5, here is a video recording of the meeting that can be translated into any language using the subtitles: https://youtu.be/WohKmT8nE1A
* Summer learning and fun right here at Promising Scholars- Smith Springs! Registration is currently open for all MNPS students. Smith Springs will be a site for students PreK-4 grade (5th graders will go to a middle school site). Register at www.summer.mnps.org. If you have any questions you can contact [email protected].
*3rd Grade families- Reminder that Promising Scholars is a pathway available for students impacted by the 3rd grade retention laws. Some students will be required to attend. Sign up now to guarantee your seat.
*Progress reports for quarter 4 will go home with students on Thursday.
*Congratulations to one of our Pre-K teachers, Beth Thouin! She has been named a United Way Ignite Early Childhood Educator of the Year! Photo attached.
Have a great weekend! We look forward to seeing our students next week every day and on time!
