Yesterday, CSEA-endorsed candidate Yvonne Walker visited CSEA to show support for retirees at the Retiree Unit Executive Board meeting. As a 26-year union activist and fiduciary advocate, Walker is CSEA's prime candidate for the retiree member seat on the CalPERS Board of Administration.

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond honored nine outstanding classified school employees on May 5 for their service to California’s public-school students. The California Department of Education’s annual program honors different classified workers from nine specialized categories.

With over 123 statewide nomination submissions, CSEA is proud to announce: eight out of nine winners this year are CSEA members. All nine winners will be recognized at this year’s CSEY ceremony on Thursday in Sacramento. Congratulations to our winners – you represent the everyday heroes of California’s public schools.

On January 14, Maurice Scrivens from Delta Valley Chapter 821 in Stockton helped a woman and her grandchild escape a burning house by breaking open a locked fence, while his colleagues made sure their students were safe at their school site across the street.
