We continue to shine a light on our principals. In the spotlight today is Robby Bowers, Park Middle School.
-How long have you been in education and how long in our district? “I have been in education for 19 years. I taught for 8 years at both the elementary and middle school level, spent two years as a literacy coach, and am entering my 9th year in administration the last 6 as a principal. I joined Antioch Unified as the principal of Park last year after working for the County Office of Education as the Principal of the Court Schools.”
-What’s a favorite school memory - either as a student or on the other side as a teacher, principal or the like? “I still think the first day of every school year is my favorite. As a student I was always excited to see my friends and meet my new teachers. The first day of school is so focused on developing relationships and community. I am still friends with a student I met on my first day of 6th grade. As a principal, I still find the first day of school my favorite for the same reason I loved it as a student.”
-What’s the most adventurous or intense thing you’ve done? “Becoming a parent! As intense as it’s been, it has given me a different perspective to what kids really need to be successful. Kids develop as students when all their basic needs are met; being an educator and parent I see that first hand. I also love to run. It helps challenge me physically and mentally. You would be really surprised what your body can do physically if you are mentally stronger enough to push it.”
-Have you ever asked for someone’s autograph? If yes, who and did you get it? “I don’t think I ever have. However, my kids went to the NASCAR championship race in Phoenix last year and maybe got 10-12 autographs. It was fun to watch them be brave and ask the racers. It was even more fun watching the racers stop what they were doing to not only sign an autograph but say hello and ask my kids how they were enjoying their time at the event.”
-What are you currently reading and/or watching? “I am watching the San Francisco Giants push for a wild card spot, the Niners start their season, and Raiders hopefully lose. I used to love the Raiders but you can’t move to Las Vegas and except me to continue to support you.”
-How do you de-stress? “By running!”

Tuesday, October 10 is World Mental Health Day.
It’s an international effort to improve knowledge, raise awareness, and drive actions that promote and protect mental health as a universal human right.
Action of the Day: Check in on someone.
By initiating meaningful conversation, you can create a sense of belonging and support, which is beneficial both for your mental health and the mental health of the person you’re checking in on. Plus, it’s as easy as sending a text message, email, or old-fashioned letter in the mail.

CHEERLEADERS OF THE WEEK:
MALLIA LESLIE AND DANAYA KELLY
Great job ladies, Keep up the good work.
PARK was there! Thanks PARK musicians for representing our school!
We have recently seen a surge in the "Paqui One Chip Challenge" which is a brand challenging individuals to consume extremely hot chips as part of a social media "challenge". Effective immediately, the “Hot Brand Challenge” chips and gummies are banned from all AUSD campuses. Students across the nation have been hospitalized as a result of a reaction to the heat index of the chips. We encourage our parents and guardians to speak with their children about the dangers of participating in this and other potentially harmful internet challenges. Notice: Students will be suspended for bringing these to school let alone trying to encourage others to take the challenge. (Pictures are for examples, only. Not the only item connected to challenge.)
We'll miss our Spartans, but can't wait to see what they accomplish in their next chapter. 🤩
