Incoming students to Mrs. Jennifer Hebert's kindergarten class at the Garret Schenck School came with their parents to a Kindergarten Open House on August 17th. Students and parents could take the bus to school, where they saw their classroom, met their teachers and classmates, listened to a story, did some activities, went on a scavenger hunt, had a snack, and tried out the school playground. This annual event helps to orient students and parents to what to expect in the kindergarten year. We look forward to welcoming our new kindergartners to school on August 31st.

June 13th-16th our GSS community celebrated the last week of school by bringing back traditions we’ve had for many years prior to covid. On Monday, students and staff gathered together in the gym for a school wide showing of the movie “Sing”. Then we were visited by 5210 Community Health Educator Michele LeBlanc who gave students bags full of fun summer goodies. On Tuesday, we held step-up day so students could visit their new teachers and classrooms. In the afternoon, we held our flea market which included fruit smoothies, fruit kabobs, popcorn, plants, books, face painting, horse drawn wagon rides, games and a white elephant table. Wednesday morning we had our end of the year assembly. Later that morning, we played a variety of fun activities for field day and in the afternoon enjoyed steam activities. On Thursday, we finished our week with a visit from the Pony X-Press Zoo! The last few years have been challenging but we are finally navigating our way back to normalcy. Until we meet again friends, we want to wish everyone a happy and safe summer!

Early this morning, 3rd grade students from Ms. Wagg's class at GSS made their community more colorful by planting zinnias at the Anson Town Office. Students walked from their school to the town office with the seedlings they had grown this spring. Then they planted the seedlings in front of the town office sign. Thank you Ms. Wagg and your 3rd grade class for this thoughtful gesture and for showing your community that you care.

On Friday (May 6th) students at Garret Schenck Elementary showed Mrs. Daigle some appreciation for Lunch Lady Hero day! Since we know that Mrs. Daigle loves her flower garden, students gave her some lovely flowers and created stepping stones (because she rocks!) for her flower garden. We appreciate you Mrs. Daigle!

Our last session of the After School Program here at GSS was certainly a success! In our final week, students enjoyed participating in camping/nature themed activities. On Tuesday, students needed to be creative and work together to design and build makeshift shelters using minimal materials. On Wednesday, we were entertained and educated by Chewonki when Ms. Emma visited with an assortment of live animals. On Thursday, we finished off our camping week with a delicious pizza party!

Thank you to everyone who helped make this program a success this year. A huge thank you to parents for allowing your children to participate! We were able to support students with homework, promote learning through hands-on activities and have fun together! We hope to see students this summer at Camp Carrabec!
