🍕💙 Student Advisory Lunch at WPMS! 💙🍕
We had another great Student Advisory Lunch today with Ryder, Natalia, Marleigh, Abel, Karson, Jaleah, Tina, and NJ! These lunches are one of our favorite ways to hear directly from our students about what they love, what we can improve, and what ideas they have for making WPMS even better.
When asked to rate WPMS from 1–10, several gave us a 9! ❤️ They talked about loving their classrooms and especially the welcoming climate of our school. They also shared that the House System has made WPMS feel even more inviting and that student interest in the Houses has really grown since last year. Students are checking the display monitors between classes, on the way to lunch and PE, and talking about the House standings throughout the day. The friendly competition is definitely alive and well! 🏆
We may finally be figuring out how middle school brains work! 😂 After older students told us they sometimes avoided earning House points because they didn't like the profile picture that popped up on the screens, we listened! Now, once students earn 35 House points, they can choose their own profile picture: athletics, band, hobbies, or another favorite photo of themselves! 📸
Today's Student Advisory group said it's already working, with students pushing academically and working toward those 35 points. A very middle-school problem we adults would've never thought of...and a perfect example of why student voice matters! 💙
One of the favorite conversations was about what makes students enjoy a classroom and want to learn. Their answers were pretty consistent: teachers who know their content, have a sense of humor, build relationships, challenge them, use games and friendly academic competition, and occasionally let them listen to music during independent work. They gave some wonderful shout-outs to teachers and classes where they're experiencing those things, too. ❤️
They were also honest about areas we can improve... They even decided Ms Ray's office was a little too cozy for eight middle schoolers plus a couple adults, so apparently Student Advisory has officially outgrown the principal's office. 😂 The courtyard or WPMS conference room may be our next stop!

We love giving our students a seat at the table and hearing WPMS through their eyes. Sometimes their feedback confirms that we're on the right track, sometimes it gives us a simple fix we never considered, and sometimes it reminds us that thinking like a middle schooler is a skill we adults lost a long time ago! 🤷♀️
Their school. Their voice. Together, it's our WPMS. 💙🐾
