World Language Teachers… looking for fresh inspiration for next year? 🚗➡️🌎✨
Right now, I'm on the road with students traveling from Alabama to Los Angeles on our first-ever Bilingual Kids road trip. Along the way, we're exploring history, culture, language, and the often-overlooked stories of Afro-Latinos and the American West.

🚐✨ Bilingual Kids, Inc.'s First Road Trip Adventure! ✨🚐

Bilingual Kids, Inc. has traveled to many places over the years, but this is our very first long-distance road trip. While our destination is exciting, the journey itself has become one of the most valuable learning experiences our students have ever had.

This trip is about much more than reaching Los Angeles. It is about embracing new experiences, being open to change, and expanding horizons beyond what students may have ever imagined possible.

Throughout this journey, our students are developing real-world skills that cannot be taught in a traditional classroom alone. They are practicing Spanish, learning how to read road maps and navigate unfamiliar areas, serving as co-pilots by helping drivers stay alert and focused, and learning how to work as a team. They are discovering the importance of putting the needs of the group before themselves, making responsible decisions, managing their time, and developing greater independence.

Our first long day was certainly memorable. We traveled through Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and finally arrived in Texas. Along the way, students witnessed the changing landscapes, cultures, and communities that make our country so diverse. Every stop became an opportunity to learn, observe, and grow.

After arriving safely in Dallas, students experienced public transportation, explored a vibrant Latino community, and learned firsthand how culture, language, and community connect people across different regions of the United States.

As educators and mentors, we often focus on academic growth, but some of the most meaningful lessons happen outside the classroom. This road trip is teaching resilience, adaptability, teamwork, leadership, and cultural awareness—lessons that will stay with these students long after the trip ends.

Many of our students had never traveled this far from home before, making this experience even more meaningful. For some, this journey represents a first opportunity to see new parts of the country, engage with different communities, and discover possibilities beyond their everyday surroundings. These are the moments that inspire confidence, broaden perspectives, and help young people realize that the world is much bigger—and more accessible—than they may have ever imagined.

We are excited to continue this journey together and grateful to everyone who has supported these students and made this opportunity possible.

To my amazing community 🤎

This year has been a transition for me.

I went from teaching in a well-resourced, predominantly white school where travel opportunities were easily funded… to now serving in a predominantly Black, rural community where every opportunity requires strategy, sacrifice, and community support.

And I’m fully committed to it.

You all know my heart for Afro-Latino identity work. I teach about Afro-Latinos, global Black history, and cultural pride because representation matters. But representation without exposure has limits.

Many of my students — Black and Latino — have never traveled out of state. Some have never seen spaces intentionally built to inspire imagination and innovation. I want them to experience Orlando not just as tourists, but as thinkers. As dreamers. As future creators.

I want them to walk through spaces that show what vision, persistence, and bold dreaming can build. I want them to see that their ideas, their culture, their brilliance belong in big spaces too.

As an immigrant and Afro-Latina educator, I know what expanded vision can do. Exposure shifts mindset. Mindset shifts trajectory.

This is bigger than a trip. This is about access.

If you believe in expanding opportunities for African American and Latino students — especially those in rural communities — would you consider supporting our Culture Club by purchasing one bag of popcorn?

The fundraiser closes Tuesday at 6am CT.

I don’t usually ask like this, but I believe in collective investment in our kids.

If you can’t purchase, please share.

It takes a village. And we are that village. 🤎🍿✈️https://s.dgpopup.com/bs03jj68
