🇺🇸 VETERANS: A SUCCESSFUL VA CLAIM STARTS WITH UNDERSTANDING WHAT YOU’RE ACTUALLY TRYING TO PROVE.
One of the biggest mistakes I see veterans make is assuming that having a diagnosis automatically means the VA will grant service connection.
It doesn’t.
In most cases, the VA is looking for three critical pieces:
1️⃣ A current disability or diagnosed condition.
2️⃣ An in-service event, injury, illness, or qualifying exposure.
3️⃣ A connection — or nexus — between what happened during your military service and the disability you’re dealing with today.
Think of those three pieces as a chain.
If one link is missing or poorly supported, the entire claim can become harder to establish.
And even after service connection is granted, there’s another question:
How severe is the disability?
That’s where your medical evidence, treatment history, lay evidence, C&P examination, symptoms, frequency, severity, and functional limitations can become extremely important.
💡 VLM TIP: Don’t walk into a C&P exam thinking it’s just another doctor’s appointment.
The examiner is gathering information the VA may use to answer very specific questions about your disability. Be truthful, be specific, and explain how your condition actually affects your daily life and ability to function.
This is exactly why Veterans Last Mission puts education first.
We don’t want veterans blindly navigating one of the most important benefit systems they’ll encounter after military service.
Understand the process. Understand your evidence. Understand your next move.
If you’re filing your first claim, seeking an increase, dealing with a denial, or preparing for an upcoming C&P exam, VLM may be able to help you better understand the road ahead.
