She has had a passion for violin since age 5 and began playing at age 9. She has taught children and adults and began her Suzuki Violin Teacher Training at the Chicago Suzuki Institute. She is excited to bring her passion for violin, music, and playing with heart to Anniston, Alabama! The Suzuki method treats learning music like learning a language. We learn a language by hearing it daily from multiple sources and through practicing speaking in different settings. For children learning, the parent is a critical part of their learning process. Individual lessons weekly and monthly lessons with peers are required. An emphasis is placed on repetition. This is how the things we learn become skills and move from short-term to long-term memory. Families must commit to daily listening of fine recordings of the music that will be played so that it becomes ingrained and easy to play. Through listening you will know the rhythm and what the notes should sound like. Daily listening and daily practice will let our brains learn the music and the violin. For children, they will also mimic what their parents do - so parents are expected to learn alongside the child at the child's lesson on a full-size violin and practice in front of the child for a little bit each day. This will also help the parent be the daily, at-home teacher and understand what the child is learning. I look forward to beginning this fun journey with you!
