”This was my second trip with 59º North, and once again it was absolutely fantastic. What impressed me most was how quickly the crew, complete strangers at the start, came together as a friendly, supportive, and socially skilled team. Living in close quarters felt natural and easy, which speaks volumes about the people drawn to 59º North.

A huge part of this was thanks to our skipper, Jon. He set exactly the right tone on board, creating an atmosphere where each of us could live our own adventure, regardless of our experience or goals. His leadership style was both relaxed and deeply competent, and it made all the difference.

Personally, my seamanship improved tremendously on this trip. I am especially grateful to Jon for the way he openly shared his thought process. He explained weather analysis, route planning, sail trim, and more with clarity and patience. Those insights were invaluable and will stay with me long after this voyage.

And finally, a big shoutout to Mia for the behind-the-scenes planning and communication. Every detail, from the gear lists to the trip logistics, was spot on and made the experience seamless.

Sailing with 59º North is not only about crossing miles; it is about growing as a sailor, sharing an adventure with great people, and coming away with memories and skills that last. I have already come back once, and I know I will again.”

Hear ye hear ye! By royal decree of the honourable court of the supreme ruler of the high seas, his holy infiniteness, Neptune, we do hereby announce the induction of nine new members into the society of shellbacks! The crew of the good ship NORDIC FALKEN valiantly underwent the harrowing and life-altering ceremony of initiation to officially transform from lowly pollywogs to hardy shellbacks! HUZZAH!

The crew valiantly navigated their way to the mythical boundary of the Equator thus triggering this ceremony. The sins of the pollywogs were publicly confessed and sacrifices in the form of gifts or performances were offered to Neptunes maidens of mischief as retribution. After careful consideration, the mer-maidens of mischief (who bore a striking resemblance to Mary and Phoebe) accepted the pleas of forgiveness and inducted the crew of guilty pollywogs into the court of Shellbacks! 💪🏴‍☠️🐢🔱🌎

LEG 7 is underway! 🚀

FALKEN is absolutely eating up miles on our way to Hawaii, in her element and fully unleashed in these stiff easterly trades. We’ve just clocked 600nm since take-off in under 72hrs of sailing! Hooooning right along and the crew is all gelling so well, smiles are beaming and folks are settling into our quick yet relaxing pace at sea. We’ve been practicing our celestial for the folks who are keen, enjoying the abundance of tropical fruit the Pacific has to provide and all around thriving out here on the big blue! Night watches have been contemplative and reflective, near silence on deck at times while folks take in what have been some of the best stars any of us have seen in our entire lives, full of awe and reverence for the immensity around us. It’s safe to say we’re all feeling so grateful to be here!

Mary Vaughan-Jones: to know her is to be in awe of her. A true hero amongst mortals. How can one person have so much competence and capability yet so much silliness and mischief all wrapped up in one legendary human being!? If you’ve had the privilege of sailing a trip with Mary you know she’s one of the coolest people out there! You also may have heard her singing to herself, switching into her Gollum persona, and generally bringing smiles and giggles to the faces of those around her. I for one feel extremely fortunate to be spending her birthday with her in the middle of the Pacific enjoying some cruisy trade wind sailing! Brownies are in the oven and celebrations are in order! We love you Mary and we’re so lucky to sail with you and learn from you! Happy birthday ya bloody legend! 🏴‍☠️
