USNA 22nd Company Spartans

Honoring Captain Miguel Nava, USNA Class of 2017

Capt. Nava was a member of 22nd Company while at the Naval Academy and was loved by all of his company mates. He was born in Traverse City, MI, and grew up in Comstock Park, MI, graduating from Comstock Park High School in 2013 where he was a beloved student, leader, and accomplished athlete. He was also voted "most likely to succeed" by his peers.

Nava received his pilot wings on July 24, 2020 and was selected to fly the Marine CH-53E helicopter at MCAS Miramar in San Diego, CA with the HMH-361 Squadron. He was promoted to the rank of Captain on November 1, 2021. His decorations include the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.

Nava’s legacy of kindness, compassion, and positive energy will live on through 22nd Company.

Grace Casey is from Brunswick Maine and loves the rocky coast, rugged outdoors and cold weather adventures! She is the assistant captain of the Women’s Ice hockey team and a platoon commander in 22nd company. As an oceanography major, Grace got the chance to travel to the Arctic Ocean and Northern Alaska for research. She loves skating, skiing, climbing mountains, being with friends and family, and reading. After graduation Grace is heading to Pensacola FL to begin flight training as a Navy Pilot.

I’m from New Orleans, Louisiana. I’m in the hardest and most respected major on the Yard, Political Science, and study Security Studies at Georgetown. This semester I am the Company’s Operation Officer and Color Guard Commander. My favorite memory at the academy is detailing as a squad leader over Plebe Summer. Upon commissioning, I will finish my studies at Georgetown and then go down to Pensacola to become a Naval Aviator.

MIDN 1/C Jalen Washington is from El Paso, Texas. He is an Aerospace Engineering major and likes to play chess with his roommates. This semester he is serving as a squad leader in 3rd platoon. Jalen wanted to come to the Naval Academy to serve his country and make valuable memories and friends. His favorite memory at the academy was ring dance. After commissioning in May, Jalen will be an ENS in the Navy and heading to Pensacola, Florida to become a Student Naval Aviator.

MIDN 1/C Tanner Cummins is currently the 4th platoon commander in 22nd Company. He is from Bel Air, MD. On the yard, he does intramural flag football and likes to run and lift. Upon commissioning he will be a Submarine Officer!
