We just returned from Vail, CO where we enjoyed learning from and exchanging ideas with other covenant life coaches!

We also enjoyed some extra time as a couple hiking mountains and canyons! We experienced unusually hot temps and some cool mountain air. We traveled highways, quiet roads, and some steep canyon walls.

Our travel, to a great degree, simply reflected life - ups and downs, hot and cold, the stable and the unexpected, the gloriously beautiful and the mundane, surprisingly delicious food and mediocre...but we were in it together and so it was all a fun adventure!

One adventure included the alpine coaster in Vail. A gondola ride up the mountain and a short walk led us to a mountain-top and mountain-side coaster that took us swerving across the terrain and over trees and deer and affording us fantastic views (that flashed quickly across our sight as we took the track at full-speed)!

It was great fun, and also a bit unnerving for me as I had control of the brakes and the speed. In the past, I prefer for someone else "more qualified" to be the one "in control" so that I don't mess things up and ruin the "ride" of life with my mistakes.

But I have been challenging myself more and more over the years to step up despite fear of the unknown or of my lack of skill in an area. I am choosing to see what I walk into as a learning lesson, one way or the other! And life is far more enjoyable with that attitude!

What is it that you are hesitant about at the moment? What forward progress are you forfeiting because the thought of risk makes you uncomfortable or even sick to your stomach?

There is nothing wrong with "doing it scared"!

In fact, courage is a matter of living by faith when doubts and fears are nipping at your ankles or staring you in the face.

So pause for a moment and consider the outcome you REALLY want.
Visualize the thing you really want to accomplish.
Remove the word "impossible" from your vocabulary.

Take courage, take heart, and take the plunge!

Last weekend I (Kurt Russell) started a 6 month real estate investment course with a group of motivated current and former military members. I'm super pumped about the knowledge I'll gain, the network I'm building, and the encouragement from like-minded people setting the bar high. This pic is of a class A, 100+ unit property. I plan to own one like this someday and am taking steps to get there.

What are you currently doing, learning, experiencing to move closer to your goals? Are you surrounding yourself with people who are going in the same direction? Take some time this weekend to take stock of who you spend time with and how the actions you take each day are moving you closer (or not) to where you want to be down the road.

Results are in...I ran a birthday mile this morning and ended up finishing just slightly faster than I expected. Planned to go out in the pace to run about 5:50 but ran the first lap a little too fast (must've been the adrenaline)! Ending up hanging on and running 5:43 so not too bad. Beautiful day to be on the track!

Does success lead to happiness? Do you tell yourself that you'll be happy as soon as you get that promotion, meet that fitness goal, or marry the man/woman of your dreams??

It might surprise you to find out that the causal effect moves in just the opposite direction as well (maybe even more so!) Various academic studies over the years have shown that there definitely is a correlation between happiness and success. However, in many cases, happiness comes first! https://escholarship.org/uc/item/8hx2445s

People who hold a positive mindset often have higher job satisfaction, greater investment in their work, more clear and ambitious goal setting; all factors that end up leading to success in multiple areas of life.

So how do you just get happy? Check in next week and I'll share some tips!

Comment below on your thoughts about happiness leading to success or success leading to happiness-

How do you eat an elephant?...one bite at a time.

You've probably heard this saying and it is absolutely true of any goal or objective you might have in life. After clarifying your goal, you just need to take that first step and keep moving forward.

Last week I had the opportunity to hike the Manitou Incline (https://manitousprings.org/where-to-play/manitou-incline/) near Colorado Springs, CO. This trail consists of 2,744 steps made of railroad ties and ascends 2,020 vertical feet of elevation gain in just under one mile of trail distance. It's an incredibly intimidating sight. Even miles away from the base of the mountain, you can see the near vertical incline shooting straight up the mountainside. Of course, it only looks more challenging when you're standing at the bottom.

This hike was work! I was huffing and puffing about 60 seconds in at the elevation (I live at sea level)!

I stopped only to turn and occasionally enjoy the view. I just kept taking one step after another and eventually made it. The view from the top was worth every step.

Are you at a place in your life where you are having trouble clarifying the goal? Or do you know the objective but need some encouragement, accountability, and guidance in taking the first step? The coaches at Living Stone Life Coaching can help! Reach out to us today for a free consultation and we can begin a new journey together.
