"Now, today there's a whole bunch of conversations about, "Well, I don't think I should photograph that because this has been done." I said, "No, I don't want to see another man in handcuffs either, I don't want to see another homeless guy on the street either, but maybe you can expand that narrative. Maybe wait, the way I would wait for a gang member for two to three to four years to change their life, to come out and say, 'look, I'm a different person today.'" For me, that's what it's about, that's what my photography is about, it's about re-envisioning. Even with the darkness, I don't shy away from it, but I've got to give you some hope, folks. Come on now."⁠
