🎶 🎨 When we bring music and art into the humanities classroom, we give students new ways in. A song or a painting can spark noticing, questioning, and wondering.

In the Forum, Close Listening: Music in the Humanities Classroom, teachers explored what happens when students read and write to music, using sound as a doorway into close reading, lively discussion, and expressive writing.

At the Hessel Museum of Art, teachers wrote in response to the museum's stunning new exhibitions featuring three remarkable women artists:
🧵 Marilou Schultz- acclaimed fourth-generation Navajo/Diné weaver and mathematics educator
🎨 Uman- multimedia artist based in upstate New York whose work traces her winding path as an immigrant and her evolution as a self-taught artist
🖼️ Betty Parsons- abstract painter, sculptor, and legendary champion of mid-century New York art.
