"The [school faculty] that prays together stays together."

We may not be the group that Fr. Patrick Peyton had in mind when he coined that phrase, but we sure enjoyed wrapping up a week of preparation for the new school year with a morning of prayer at the National Shrine of the Little Flower and an afternoon of fun and fellowship at the Detroit Zoo.

We are looking forward to meeting our incoming freshman class on Monday and seeing everyone on Tuesday for orientation before classes begin on Wednesday. It's going to be a great year at FGR!

Earlier this month, members of the FGR Class of 2021 gathered to reconnect and celebrate five years since graduating from Father Gabriel Richard High School.

It’s always special to see our alumni return to the FGR community and continue the friendships and memories that began here. We’re proud of all that the Class of 2021 has already accomplished—and we can’t wait to see what the next five years bring!

Happy 5th Anniversary, Class of 2021! 💚

All alumni are invited to this year's homecoming football game on Friday, October 2nd at EMU's Rynearson Stadium. Stop by the Eagle Suite for free food and refreshments! RSVP here: https://fgrhs.org/events/

Let the 2026-2027 school year begin! No one kicks off a school year quite like us with our Green & White Night celebration. We start with the anticipatory Mass and then head outside out for food, fun, friends, and football!

Mr. Jordano announced our 2026-2027 Theme, "SEEK HIM FIRST" based on Matthew 6:33, and Father Brett announced the Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus that will take place on the first day of classes in just a week and a half.

We cannot wait to have everyone back on campus daily, welcome our new students and families, and grow and learn together in our authentic Catholic community!

A HUGE thank you to the FGR Booster Club for all their hard work on this great event!

READ: OUR MAN IN ROME | FATHER WESTERMANN APPOINTED TO PONTIFICAL NORTH AMERICAN COLLEGE STAFF: Congratulations to Diocese of Lansing priest, Father Dan Westermann, who has been asked to serve as a spiritual director at the Pontifical North American College in Rome, effective September 1, 2026.

“I am very grateful both to Bishop Boyea for allowing Father Westermann to serve as a member of the formation team at the North American College, and to Father Westermann for his generous ‘yes’,” said Monsignor Thomas Powers, Rector of the Pontifical North American College, August 14.

“Along with his experience in seminary formation and his training in spiritual direction, I am confident that he will also model for the seminarians a prayerful, joyful and priestly example.”

Father Dan Westermann entered the seminary after attending Father Gabriel Richard High School in Ann Arbor. He was ordained to the priesthood in 2014 after attending Saint John Vianney College Seminary in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and the Pontifical North American College in Rome.

After ordination, he served two years in East Lansing at Saint Thomas Aquinas parish and Saint John Church and Student Center, which serves the students of Michigan State University. He then returned to Rome to finish a licentiate in Moral Theology at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas (Angelicum).

Upon returning to the Diocese, he served as the associate pastor at Holy Family parish in Grand Blanc, and the following year was moved to serve as administrator of Saint Mary and Saint Joseph in Durand. In the summer of 2019, he was appointed the pastor of Saint John the Baptist Parish in Ypsilanti, which serves Eastern Michigan University.

In 2025, Father Westermann was assigned to the staff at Saint John Vianney College Seminary, Minnesota, where he served as a formation advisor and spiritual director. He is currently completing the Spiritual Direction Training Program through the Institute for Priestly Formation.

Good luck and God bless in Rome, Father Westermann!

Saint Peter, pray for him.
Saint Paul, pray for him.
Our Lady, Queen of the Clergy, pray for him.

From all of us at Father Gabriel Richard High School, thank you for making this summer's Deacon Lawrence Golf Outing an incredible success!

Thanks to your generous support, this year's outing welcomed a record number of golfers and raised a record-breaking $44,000 for tuition assistance. Your generosity helps make a Catholic education at FGR possible for students and families who might not otherwise have the opportunity.

The Deacon Lawrence Golf Outing is about much more than a day on the course. It is a celebration of faith, friendship, and the enduring legacy of Deacon Lawrence. We were especially honored to once again welcome members of the Lawrence family, whose presence serves as a meaningful reminder of the values and spirit that continue to inspire our school community.

To our sponsors, donors, volunteers, and every single golfer who joined us—thank you. You can view the full list of our generous sponsors on our website: https://fgrhs.org/golf-outing/

Milan High School Auditorium was ALIVE with THE SOUND OF MUSIC this past weekend as the FGR Dramalums presented four outstanding performances to full houses!

Alumni, including current faculty members Theresa DiFranco ’19 and Kelly Hernandez ’06, current students, and young community members presented the adaptation of the Family von Trapp's life in Austria and subsequent escape after the Third Reich's invasion.

Thank you to all our audiences! We hope you enjoyed watching as much as we enjoyed sharing!
