Our very FIRST "Night For Us" of the year will be featuring Sophomore, David Ward and his band, 'Cool Socks' 7PM on Thursday, September 28th at the Canterbury House! -----------------------------------------------
David Ward is a drummer and producer born in Portland Oregon. Influenced and supported by his family to pursue music as his main focus, David began studying jazz performance at the University of Michigan in 2016. His early beginnings, at the age of three years old, have been admittedly his favorite asset saying "when your life revolves around one thing, it's easy to share it with others". David brings you his love for ska in a special Ska Informational and brief history. Come join Cool Socks for a night of ska love! A brief history of Ska will be provided along side some of his favorite Ska hits, and some of the most important tunes. Bring your dancing shoes because "the band gets awkward when everyone looks at us the whole time." Let us know you're coming by RSVP to our Facebook event

Up late thinking about the racist incidents that occurred on campus this week. Occurrences like this is why this organization was founded, to bring students of color together to try to find light during these dark times and to create a space for us to actually feel what's going on. Because that is a luxury most of students of color on campus can't even afford. A lot of us would like to feel enraged, fearful, and disappointed but indulging in those feelings distract from the essays we have to write, tests we have to study for and ultimately, aspirations we have to reach. It's easiest to just push those feelings aside because It's hard to realize that the very same people who told you were brilliant and had a bright future will also look the other way when you're being oppressed and your safety is compromised.

I just want y'all to know that if you feel like your dorm door could've been covered in graffiti, or your hijab could've been snatched off, or you could be called racial slurs while you're one the way to class or even in class,
You can always contact us via instant message through the ACAA page and we will do our best to be an ear or a shoulder to cry on. It can mean the world for someone just to acknowledge that what you're feeling is okay and that you're just not going crazy.

You are dope. You are strong. You are beautiful and you deserve better. ❤
