If you have driven anywhere in Michigan or Ohio this month, you have already met the orange barrels, and you will be seeing a lot more of them.

Work zones are some of the most unpredictable stretches of road you will drive. Lane configurations change overnight, speed limits drop suddenly, and workers are often just a few feet from moving traffic.

A few things to teach new drivers (and remember yourself):
- Start slowing down the moment you see the first warning sign, not when you reach the cones
- Merge early when lanes are closing, last-second merges cause crashes
- Keep extra following distance, traffic ahead can stop without warning
- Put the phone away, work zones are not the place for a distracted glance
- Watch for workers, flaggers, and equipment crossing the lanes

Great driver education is about more than the rules of the road. It is about the person sitting next to you helping it all click.

Our instructors are patient, encouraging, and good at the small things: knowing when to coach, when to let a student work it out, and when to crack a joke to ease the nerves. They are the reason students leave All Star not just licensed, but actually confident.
If you are looking for a place to start, or finish, your driver ed journey, we would love to be that team for you.

Hot pavement, long drives, and a car that has been baking in the sun all day. Summer is uniquely tough on vehicles, especially older ones that newer drivers often inherit.
Before any longer summer drive, walk through this quick check:

- Tire pressure (heat increases it; check when tires are cool)
- Coolant level
- Engine oil
- Windshield wipers (sun damages rubber)
- Air conditioning and defroster
- Emergency kit: water, jumper cables, phone charger

If something does not look right, address it before you go, not from the side of the road. Teaching your teen to do this walk-around is one of the most useful habits you can pass along.

Summer should be about memories, not statistics.

The 100 days between Memorial Day and Labor Day are the most dangerous for teen drivers, with higher crash risks at night and on weekends. A few safer choices behind the wheel can make all the difference.

🌟 Meet Ed Stark, our June Instructor Spotlight at John Glenn High School in Westland, MI! 🌟

With 20 years of experience in driver education, Ed’s favorite part of teaching is the strong rapport he builds with his students along the way. He values that All Star Driver Education provides top-tier resources and equipment, helping create a better learning experience both in and out of the car.

Ed believes one of the most important qualities in a driver is focus—keeping driving a singular task without distractions like texting or multitasking. He notes that today’s new drivers face more distractions than ever, especially with built-in vehicle technology, and works to help them stay attentive and in control behind the wheel.

One of the most rewarding moments for Ed is when a student finally “gets it”—that eureka moment when steering clicks and confidence starts to build.

To help students overcome nerves, Ed encourages them to face the challenge head-on and grow more comfortable with experience.

His top safety tip: put your phone out of reach before you start driving—set your playlist ahead of time and stay focused on the road.

Join us in celebrating Ed and the impact he’s made on so many drivers over the years!
