The award recognizes her significant contributions to nurse anesthesiology through clinical research, education and leadership.

AANA | News | Susan P. McMullan to Receive AANA Foundation’s John F. Garde Researcher of the Year Award The American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA) Foundation will present Susan P. McMullan, PhD, CRNA, CNE, CHSE, FAANA, FAAN, with the John F. Garde Researcher of the Year Award at the AANA 2026 Annual Congress, August 21-25 in Boston.

We are thrilled to congratulate alum Allison R. Webel, PhD '09, RN, FAAN, who was welcomed last month as the 10th dean of the University of Michigan School of Nursing.

Previously the associate dean for research and innovation at the University of Washington School of Nursing, Webel has focused her career on improving health outcomes and quality of life for people living with chronic conditions, advancing healthy aging, and fostering interdisciplinary and cross-sector collaboration to address complex health care challenges.

"From an early age, I was drawn to nursing because it brings together science, service, and deep human connection," she said. "Over the years, that calling has only deepened my belief that at its best, nursing helps make people, families, and communities stronger, kinder, and more hopeful."

This month, we welcomed 20 nursing leaders, educators, policymakers and health care stakeholders from 10 countries to Michigan Nursing for the week-long immersive program, Developing Advanced Practice Nurses Globally!

This experience allowed participants to share ideas, learn from one another and explore ways to strengthen nurse practitioner education and practice around the world. Dean Allison Webel and Associate Dean for Global Affairs Dr. Jeanne-Marie Stacciarini were among the UMSN leaders who joined the week’s events and conversations.

The program also helped us kick off a special milestone: 30 years of global engagement at Michigan Nursing!

Congratulations to Dr. Jessica Dozier of UMSN's Department of Systems, Populations and Leadership on being selected as one of the Society of Family Planning's 2026 Changemakers in Family Planning award recipients.

The award recognizes a select cohort of scholars dedicated to advancing family planning research and supports scholars of color in expanding their research skills and expertise.

We're proud to see Dr. Dozier's work recognized alongside this outstanding group of changemakers. Congratulations, Dr. Dozier!
