The U School

Classroom D and B teamed up this summer to open up shop, a full lemonade stand for the whole school!

They prepared watermelon lemonade, assigned roles, and even designed their own currency, distributing it to the entire U School community—staff included!🍋

The children in Room C have worked long and hard to become our resident “sewists” – sewing artists. Sewing offers the opportunity for little hands and growing minds to express their own creativity and empower their autonomy. From weaving and threading beads with large needles to stitching simple patterns on fabric, the children have explored textures, colors, and patterns. And then they combined those skills to bring to life their vision for a new stuffie or pillow, each one of them beaming with pride after every new handmade creation!

When movement meets art... This is what Room C explored by observing their own bodies and representing themselves through the art languages of drawing and sculpting, while also reflecting on how it makes them feel.

Movement becomes art, and art becomes movement!

Today we were lucky to be visited by local legend Laura Pershin Raynor, a longtime AADL Librarian and educator, to experience her dynamic powers of storytelling! The stories had us doubled over with laughter and (literally) jumping for joy.

Last week during our Summer set-up days, the U Team took a staff trip to explore Detroit on a city-wide scavenger hunt, followed by a delicious meal from Baobab Fare. It was a day of adventure, discovery, and just a little bit of healthy competition!
