UROP Alumni Spotlight: Congratulations, Anna Luurtsema! 🌟
We are proud to celebrate former UROP student Anna Luurtsema, whose undergraduate research experience at the University of Michigan has led to a forthcoming publication!
Anna, now a Ph.D. student in Anthropology at Penn State and a practicing archaeologist, studies the production of heritage, place, and identity. Her research journey began at U-M through UROP, where she worked alongside her UROP mentor, Dr. Alicia Ventresca-Miller.
Anna’s forthcoming article is a powerful example of how undergraduate research can spark meaningful scholarly contributions that extend well beyond graduation. We are thrilled to celebrate her continued success and the lasting impact of her UROP experience.

Today's spotlight shines on UROP Travel Grant recipients Giulia Pincetti, Isabella Burke, and Emma Higbee, who recently attended and presented at the Initiative to Study Hate Symposium at UCLA.
During the symposium, they shared their research, engaged with faculty and researchers from institutions across the country, and gained valuable exposure to a broader academic community.
Their UROP research mentor is Cesi Cruz, Associate Professor of Political Science, Associate Professor of Economics in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, and Faculty Associate at the Center for Political Studies within the Institute for Social Research.
Congratulations to Giulia, Isabella, and Emma on representing UROP and the University of Michigan through their outstanding research.

The Graduate Education Preparation Program (GEPP) is a two-year, cohort based model, designed to increase access to advanced degrees and pathways to graduate work. This program specifically seeks to support students who have experienced financial hardship as a result of family economic circumstances and/or are first generation in their families to graduate from a four-year college.
