We’re excited to announce a brand-new opportunity to recognize the incredible achievements of our alumni!

The Significant Alumni Award honors graduates of the University of Michigan’s Department of Biostatistics (within 20 years of graduation) who are making meaningful impacts through their work in research, innovation, public health, and leadership.

We're thrilled to congratulate Veera Baladandayuthapani on his newly announced appointment as the next Chair of the Department of Biostatistics here at the University of Michigan! Our community is in great hands as we build upon our traditions of research excellence, world-class education, collaboration, and kindness.

Veera Baladandayuthapani named chair of the Department of Biostatistics at Michigan Public Health.

Baladandayuthapani has been a professor of Biostatistics at Michigan Public Health since 2018, after spending 13 years in the Department of Biostatistics at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. His research interests are focused on statistical and machine learning modeling of high-dimensional biomedical data, especially genomics and imaging. His work has resulted in more than 150 papers published in top statistical, biostatistical, machine learning, bioinformatics, biomedical, and oncology journals.

The perfect day to celebrate both circumference over diameter and filling over crust: it's Pi Day! Michigan Biostatistics marked the occasion with a variety of pies from Grand Traverse Pie Company, Pi-themed trivia, a special countdown to 3:14pm with a "Pie Drop", and a good-natured, last-person-standing Pi memorization contest.
