The JCLP warmly invites you to join our Sukkot Open House on September 30th from 5:30-7pm. For seven days, the sukkah offers shelter in the courtyard of the School of Social Work, a respite from the action of classrooms and the motion of the atrium. All students, staff, and faculty, are welcome to take a moment of reflection, complete an assignment, or simply sit in community in the sukkah. At our open house, we look forward to engaging in conversations about what it means to create a welcoming, open environment within the JCLP and our broader community as we begin our school year. Shanah tovah from the JCLP! A few weeks ago, we began a new academic year with the Community Welcome Breakfast. At the breakfast, JCLP students led conversations at their tables, asking 50 community members about what comes into focus when they think of the Jewish community from their own perspective compared to others. One of the themes of the JCLP this year is looking at Jewish community through a prism, exploring what comes to light and what changes from each angle, so this breakfast conversation was an enlightening way to begin the work we will continue all school year.

We are four weeks out from our annual welcome breakfast! The incoming and returning JCLP students invite you to join us on Monday, August 31st for a delightful breakfast catered by Amanda’s Kitchen accompanied by invigorating conversations led by both cohorts of JCLP students. Building community and facilitating dialogue centered around community are two crucial components of the JCLP experience; we hope you can join us in beginning our year!

It’s time for our last (but certainly not our least!) installment of Meet the JCLP! This week, meet Niv! Niv has spent his summer working in DC/Maryland as a part of Jewish Social Service Agency (JSSA) working with the continuing education and DEI programs within the organization. More recently, he has started working in Camp Greentree, a camp and behavioral treatment program for youths in Montgomery County, Maryland. He has been excited to live in the DC area and taking advantage of the wonderful museums and opportunities to explore the city.

Welcome back to our Meet the JCLP series! Meet Hava! This summer, Hava is working at the Family Assessment Clinic (FAC), a child welfare clinic dedicated to supporting children and families who have experienced trauma and maltreatment. At FAC, she provides individualized therapy to children, helping them build coping skills, process emotions, and strengthen their resilience. Through this work, she is gaining hands-on clinical experience while pursuing her interest in supporting children and families. When she's not at FAC, Hava enjoys spending time with friends, working at Ann Arbor’s Spiedo, and hiking!

Time for another JCLP Intro! Meet Jacob! Jacob is spending his summer internship working with Service Corps to volunteer at Jewish Family Services and learn about Detroit agricultural infrastructure. He is also continuing some projects from the spring semester, working remotely with the Michigan Oncology Quality Consortium to write manuscripts for publication, in addition to holding a serving job in Ann Arbor. In his free time, Jacob has been hiking and camping and frolicking!

Hello and welcome back to our JCLP Intro series! Meet Rhyan! Rhyan is spending her summer internship working in the office of State Senator Stephanie Chang. Her work is primarily focused on organizing an outdoor resource fair at the end of the summer and the day-to-day work of helping Senator Chang’s consituants getting access to the resources they need. In her downtime, Rhyan is horseback riding, kayaking, and caring for her critters!

Happy summer! As many of you know, part of the JCLP experience includes completing a summer field placement for the middle semester of the demanding five-semester program. To give you an inside look at our rising second year students’ summer internships and adventures, we’ll be having a JCLP second year introduce themself and share their experiences each week. This week, meet Morgan! Morgan is spending her summer internship working with Community Action Network (CAN). With this incredible organization, she is running food pantry distributions, participating in community meetings/events, and will be running social-emotional learning workshops for children at one of CAN’s day camps. When she’s not at CAN, Morgan is reading and writing poetry, learning how to take care of houseplants, and basking in as much of the Michigan sun as she can!

Can’t think of a better way to start off the summer than by sharing some pictures from our 2026 JCLP graduation ceremony! We are so proud of our MSW graduates and wish them success as they embark on their next adventures. Congratulations once again to our newest alumni!
