Hola SHPE familia! We are looking for volunteers in our Discover Engineering program.

Discover Engineering is an opportunity for mentors to virtually teach a skill they have learned to a group of high school students in Detroit. The goal for this program is to provide a tool for high school students that they can use when they get to college while also being mentored by college students that have shared backgrounds and experiences.

Here is more info on how the program will be run this semester:
-The program will be from September 19th-November 11th.
- Mentors are to meet with their students once a week for 1-1.5 hours.
- During the first two meetings, mentors will present and walk students through the specific skill that they are familiar with.
- Students will have 5-6 weeks to complete a project with their group using the skill learned from their mentor.
- For completion of the program, all groups will present their project to our SHPE chapter.
-Students will receive a certificate for participating.

Examples of skills taught last year: Matlab, C++, Solidworks, Simulated Arduino, TinkerCad
Open to new ideas of skills to be taught!

Please fill out the form in the Linktree by April 20th if you are graduating this semester (Winter 2022) and would like to receive a SHPE graduation certificate and a free SHPE stole. We will send the pick up dates and locations in email.

Join us April 21st at Cesar Chavez Academy to assist a group of students in a STEM project during their after school programs. Each volunteer will help a group of 2-3 students set up an arduino project for the hour and a half session. Volunteer form closes on April 14th at 5 PM. Please sign up as soon as possible if you are in need of transportation!

The panel will consist of Google engineers along with a few of your peers who have interned at a variety of companies. They will share their journey along with tips for a successful internship and full-time transition.
