What does "good teaching" actually look like under a microscope? ๐ฌ
Standard observations often focus on the "vibe" of a classroom. But at TeachingWorks, we use video analysis to examine micro-moves.
In our Practice Collaborative, we'll offer you the tools you need to pause video of teaching to ask questions like:
๐ค What did the teacher say to invite that student into the conversation?
๐ค How did the positioning of the teacher's body change the classroom dynamic?
๐ค How was the whiteboard used to make thinking visible?
When we see the work this clearly, we can teach it more effectively.

Why design your teacher education courses or programs in a vacuum? Spend 1.5 days with the TeachingWorks team and a community of peers who are as passionate about teacher prep as you are.
At the Backwards Design Institute for Teacher Educators (July 30โ31 in Ann Arbor), you'll learn directly from our experts, including Deputy Director Francesca Forzani and Research & Design Specialist Heather Beasley. You'll also have the opportunity to collaborate and analyze practice with colleagues working across different states, communities, and program formats (residencies, apprenticeships, traditional programs).

Equity isn't an "add-on"โit's baked into every instructional decision. At the Elementary Mathematics Laboratory (July 6โ10 in Sarnia, Ontario, or July 20โ24 in Detroit, Michigan), we'll interrogate how we position students, whose ideas get heard, and how to value the mathematical brilliance of every student. ๐

Why should a teacher's first attempt at a difficult lesson be in front of 30 students?
In every other high-stakes professionโfrom surgery to aviationโpractitioners use simulations to hone their skills. Teaching should be no different.
Through the TeachingWorks Practice Collaborative: Rehearsals and Other Simulations, we'll help you master the art of the coached rehearsal. This pedagogy allows novices to practice high-leverage moves in a safe environment, receiving real-time feedback before they ever step into a PKโ12 classroom.
๐ Get support in implementing rehearsals or another form of simulation in your teacher preparation class or program.
